The vehicle, which Dhoni reportedly purchased back in 2009, underwent a complete makeover in Ranchi earlier this year. Its new design features images of fighter jets, tanks, helicopters and soldiers, giving it a strong military look. Dhoni’s admiration for the armed forces is well-documented. In 2011, he was awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. He has also trained with the Para Forces and even completed parachute jumps as part of his association with the Army. The World Cup-winning captain has often spoken about drawing inspiration from soldiers’ discipline and courage. During the 2019 ICC World Cup, he was seen wearing gloves featuring the ‘Balidaan Badge’ — an emblem of the Para Special Forces, as a tribute.

As the bill is structured, even without rules, there are certain provisions that can come into force immediately. But that is a decision we will take,” MeitY Secretary S Krishnan told ANI earlier. The legislation has been brought in with a dual purpose — encouraging e-sports and online social games while completely prohibiting online money gaming, advertisements, and related financial transactions. Failing to comply with the law may attract severe penalties, including imprisonment of up to three years and/or fines up to Rs 1 crore for offering or facilitating money games. Repeat offences could lead to imprisonment of up to five years and fines up to Rs 2 crore. Offences will be cognizable and non-bailable, with authorities empowered to search, seize, and arrest without a warrant in some cases.Krishnan acknowledged that the new law could lead to losses of Rs 15,000–20,000 crore annually in GST collections. However, he stressed that revenue considerations were secondary. “When the government has a larger social objective in mind, revenue loss is not the primary consideration. In any case, the bill had the approval and the consent of the Finance Ministry as well,” he said. The government has underscored that the Bill is aimed at preventing addiction, financial losses, and extreme consequences such as suicides linked to money gaming. Reports of money laundering and terror financing have also driven the need for tighter regulation. At the same time, the law seeks to give e-sports legal backing for the first time in India. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will set up a dedicated framework for its promotion, while online social games will also be encouraged.

SEBI in an attempt to increase women's participation in mutual funds, preparing to give additional incentives on investment for the first time - to encourage green in women's in mutual funds sebi planning additionals for first time investors said tuhin kanta pandey

Market Regulator SEBI is trying to increase women’s participation in mutual funds schemes. SEBI is considering a plan to give additional incentives to women investors who invest for the first time. SEBI chairman Tuhin Kant Pandey gave this information in a program of Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). Pandey said, “Financial inclusion will not be complete until women will participate in it.” So we are considering bringing additional distribution incentives for women investors investing for the first time.

He said that SEBI is taking several steps to promote the mutual funds industry and protect the interests of investors. Recently, it has been proposed to encourage distributors on investment by new individual investors in cities of the second and third category (Tier 2 and Tier 3). This will add new participants and the scope of mutual funds will increase to low participation areas.

Classification review of mutual fund schemes

SEBI chief said that with flexibility and clarity in product innovation, classifications of mutual fund schemes are being reviewed to overcome the problem of investment in the same type of fund schemes. Based on the suggestions received from the counseling process being conducted in this regard, the next steps will be decided. Pandey said, “These measures will be helpful in making the industry more transparent and investor friendly.”

Pandey said that in order to simplify business ease and compliance, SEBI has recently reviewed the reports sought from mutual funds. After this, the need to submit more than 52 reports, notices and esdams has been abolished. In the coming months, SEBI will also work on simplifying the rules related to mutual funds, so that the compliance for the industry will be easy and ensure protecting the interests of investors.

Why will India not have any new law college in the coming three years?

Why will India not have any new law college in the coming three years?
Law College Dreams: A Bright Future

The Bar Council of India (BCI), the statutory body that regulates legal education and practice, has recently imposed a three-year moratorium on the establishment of new law colleges and centres of legal education (CLEs). India’s legal education has long resembled an overcrowded courtroom: Too many petitioners, too few advocates of substance, and an avalanche of paper that often hides the paucity of substance. At first glance, the decision may appear draconian in a country with soaring demand for legal education. But scratch beneath the surface, and the move reflects a deeper crisis in India’s legal training ecosystem—one that regulators are keen to fix before allowing further expansion.

The problem of quantity over quality

Estimates suggest that India today has over 1,700 law colleges, producing approximately 80,000–90,000 graduates each year. In theory, this should be a celebration of democracy, of access, of justice made tangible through a wider pool of practitioners. In practice, the majority of these institutions are barely more than signboards with classrooms. They offer skeletal libraries, non-existent moot courts, and faculty that too often treat teaching as a reluctant part-time job.Multiple surveys by the BCI and independent commissions have revealed that a large share of law colleges operate more as “degree shops” than serious centres of learning. They lack full-time qualified faculty, libraries are skeletal, and clinical legal training is almost absent. The result: Graduates who hold a degree but are often ill-prepared for practice in courts, corporate firms, or public service.

Employment mismatch: The graduate glut

The crisis is not just academic but also economic. For every clutch of graduates from National Law Universities who step into gleaming corporate boardrooms, there are thousands more who wander from chambers to district courts, struggling to find cases, or worse, jobs that match neither their degree nor their debt. The glut of unemployable law graduates has become the profession’s open secret. The BCI has been repeatedly criticised for allowing proliferation of sub-standard colleges, leading to an oversupply of graduates with limited practical skills. By announcing a freeze, the regulator is signalling that it wants to correct the imbalance between supply and demand.

Using the pause to raise standards

The moratorium is also about buying time to implement reforms. During this three-year window, the BCI aims to:

  • Audit existing colleges to ensure compliance with infrastructure, faculty, and curriculum standards.
  • Tighten recognition norms, making it harder for institutions to survive without meeting minimum requirements.
  • Push for practical training, including moot courts, internships, and clinical legal education.
  • Align curricula with contemporary needs—cyber law, arbitration, AI and law—so that graduates are better prepared for modern practice.

In short, the BCI wants to ensure that the next expansion of law colleges is accompanied by higher academic rigour and professional credibility, rather than unchecked growth.

A history of oversight failures

This is not the first time the legal education sector has been under the scanner. Back in the 1990s, the Yash Pal Committee and the National Knowledge Commission flagged concerns about the proliferation of substandard professional colleges—in law, engineering, and management alike. Despite multiple warnings, regulatory loopholes allowed a surge of law colleges in semi-urban and rural areas, many without the means to deliver quality education. The current moratorium is therefore an acknowledgement of past regulatory failures. It reflects the BCI’s recognition that before more licences are granted, existing institutions must be cleaned up and strengthened. The broader context: Lack of trust in the legal systemIndia’s judiciary is already battling a credibility crisis with innumerable pending cases, long delays, and concerns about access to justice. In this context, poorly trained lawyers only worsen the problem. The moratorium thus serves a symbolic as well as practical purpose: Sending a message that legal education cannot be diluted without damaging the very justice system it feeds into.Interestingly, the BCI has kept the door slightly ajar. The Council has said that in backward or underserved regions, exceptions may be considered if there is a strong case for opening a new institution. This indicates that the moratorium is not an absolute freeze, but a carefully calibrated pause.

Recent developments

While new colleges are blocked, existing institutions are seeing active regulatory engagement:

  • CNLU’s 3-Year LLB Course: Chanakya National Law University (Patna) has been permitted to start a three-year LLB programme from 2025–26, making it the fourth NLU to do so. This suggests that the BCI is still encouraging programme diversification within reputed universities.
  • Gujarat Colleges Back in Admissions: Fourteen grant-in-aid law colleges in Gujarat, previously excluded for non-compliance, have been reinstated into the admission process after the state government cleared dues and promised reforms. They must now strictly follow faculty and infrastructure norms.

The road ahead

The moratorium is not merely about stopping new colleges; it is about resetting the standards of legal education in India. If the BCI uses these three years to enforce accountability, upgrade curricula, and weed out non-performing institutions, the long-term benefits could be significant. However, if this pause ends without meaningful reform, it risks being yet another cosmetic measure—leaving students to bear the brunt of a system that churns out degrees without delivering real opportunity.

While addressing the BJP’s booth committee members in Tirunelveli, he also apologised for not being able to speak in Tamil.“First of all, I am not able to speak in the great Tamil language on the land of Tamil Nadu, so I apologise to all of you,” Shah said. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president JP Nadda for making Tamil Nadu leader CP Radhakrishnan the NDA candidate for the post of Vice President.Shah was accorded a warm reception by party members upon his arrival from Kochi. He later had tea with BJP state chief Nainar Nagenthiran at his residence. Booth committee members from Kanyakumari, Tenkasi, Tuticorin, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli constituencies participated in the meeting.During his address, Shah highlighted PM Modi’s governance and policies and criticised the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu. Here are the top quotes from his address:

  • Shah expresses NDA’s confidence to form government: Shah said that in the coming days, a government consisting of the BJP, Aiadmk and NDA allies is expected to be formed in Tamil Nadu. He accused DMK government of being the most corrupt government in the country, having carried out numerous scams. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA alliance secured 18 per cent of the votes, while AIADMK received 21 per cent. Combined, the NDA accounts for approximately 39 per cent of the total votes.
  • Operation Sindoor and National Security: Shah recalled the Pahalgam terror attack, stating that Pakistani terrorists had killed innocent citizens. He said PM Modi had promised to act against the terrorists and their masters, and by authorising Operation Sindoor, their bases in Pakistan were destroyed. “Post-Pahalgam terror attack, PM Modi smashed terror havens in Pakistan as promised with Operation Sindoor,” the union minister said.
  • CP Radhakrishnan’s role and Tamil pride: Shah stated that after assuming the post of Vice President, CP Radhakrishnan of Tamil Nadu would become the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. He noted that the NDA had earlier conferred the highest honour on APJ Abdul Kalam by making him President of India and emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently promoted Tamil Nadu, its language, and its culture.
  • DMK under fire: The home minister criticised the ruling DMK government, calling it the most corrupt in the country and citing scams including sand mining, nutrition kits, and MNREGA. He accused TN CM Stalin of attempting to run the government from jail and alleged that the CM’s only agenda is to make his son chief minister, while Congress leader Sonia Gandhi aims to make her son prime minister. “Neither Rahul Gandhi nor Udhayanidhi could become PM and CM respectively. NDA will win,” he said.
  • PM Modi Guided by Thirukkural: Highlighting PM Modi’s governance, Shah said the Prime Minister follows the guidance of Thirukkural, which defines an ideal ruler as one with an army, patriotic citizens, wealth, powerful allies and robust forts. He added that Modi has successfully implemented these principles in modern governance.
  • Shah slams Stalin on 130th constitutional amendment: Shah said chief minister MK Stalin had no right to call the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill a “black bill,” accusing him of carrying out “black deeds.” He questioned whether it was appropriate for ministers like K Ponmudy and V Senthil Balaji to remain in the Cabinet despite being in jail in connection with ED cases. Shah asserted that neither Stalin nor Sonia Gandhi’s agenda would succeed and that the NDA would emerge victorious. “TN CM Stalin has no right to dub the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill as a ‘black bill’,” home minister said.

'TMC jaabe, poribortan hobe': in kolkata, pm modi's big charge and a promise - top quotes

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a full-blown attack against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and pledged a “poribortan” from the Trinamool Congress government. While addressing a rally in Kolkata, the prime minister accused the West Bengal government of diverting money sent by the Centre towards TMC cadres.

‘Should Govts Run From Jail?’: PM Modi Targets Rahul, Tejaswi Over Corrupt Ministers’ Bill in Bihar

Here are the top quotes from PM Modi’s speech

  • I have arrived in Kolkata at a time when preparations for Durga Puja have begun. Kolkata is being adorned with new colours and fresh vibrancy. When the festival of faith and joy is combined with the festival of development, the happiness doubles. Just a short distance from here, I had the opportunity to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate major projects related to the Kolkata Metro and highways.
  • West Bengal is one of the largest states in the country in terms of population. Therefore, until the strength of West Bengal is enhanced, the journey towards a developed India cannot succeed. Because the BJP believes, the BJP’s conviction is – only when Bengal rises will a developed India be formed.
  • Over the past 11 years, the BJP government at the Centre has consistently provided every kind of support for the development of West Bengal. The amount of money that the Congress-led UPA government provided in its 10 years for the construction of National Highways in Bengal, our Indian government has given Bengal more than three times that amount. The budget for railways in Bengal has also been increased threefold compared to before.
  • However, there is a significant challenge facing development work in Bengal. The challenge is that most of the money we send directly to the state government for Bengal… is looted here. That money is spent on TMC cadres. As a result, Bengal lags behind other states in the country in many schemes for the welfare of the poor.
  • A few years ago, the situation in the neighbouring states of Assam and Tripura was much the same. But ever since the BJP government came to power in Assam and Tripura, the benefits of welfare schemes for the poor have started reaching the people there. Today, the work of providing water to every household in these states is progressing rapidly. Under the Ayushman scheme, free treatment up to 5 lakh rupees is being provided to every poor person. Permanent houses are being built for the poor.
  • As long as the TMC government remains in Bengal… the development of Bengal will remain obstructed, stalled. That’s why today, every person in Bengal is saying… only when TMC goes will real change come.
  • The BJP fulfills every resolution it makes. We have recently witnessed proof of this during Operation Sindoor. Our army turned the hideouts of terrorists and their masters across the border into ruins. Our forces taught the terrorists such a lesson that Pakistan is still reeling from it.
  • Those who have come here to snatch the livelihoods of our people, who have stayed by forging documents… they will have to leave. And for this task to be completed honestly… the TMC government will also have to leave from here.
  • West Bengal is a border state. The way the demography is being altered in border areas is also creating a social crisis in West Bengal. In particular, farmers are being deceived and their land is being seized, and tribals are being misled to take over their land. The country cannot tolerate this; it must be stopped. Therefore, this time from the Red Fort, I have announced a special demography mission against infiltration.
  • The BJP believes that until West Bengal develops, the ‘yatra’ of ‘Viksit Bharat’ will not be successful…In the past 11 years, the central government has extended every possible help for the development of West Bengal…The money that the central government sends for the development of the state is being looted and is spent on the TMC cadre.

‘My main purpose coming here is…’: CEO Jensen Huang visits Taiwan as Nvidia looks to stop H20 AI chips production

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently visited Taiwan, stating his “main purpose coming here is to discuss our new product plans and strategy.” His visit came as reports emerged that Nvidia has ordered key suppliers, including Foxconn, Samsung Electronics, and Amkor Technology, to halt production of its H20 AI chip designed for the Chinese market. According to a report by the news agency Reuters, the decision to stop H20 production follows pressure from Beijing, which urged local companies to avoid using the chip. The H20 is the most advanced chip Nvidia is currently allowed to sell in China under U.S. export restrictions. Huang’s visit comes ahead of Nvidia’s earnings release as discussions with chip foundry partner TSMC are taking place amid rising tensions between the US and China over access to leading AI technology, the report notes

What Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said about his Taiwan visit

“My main purpose coming here is to visit TSMC,” Huang said to reporters during his visit to TSMC. According to a live feed broadcast by local media at Taipei’s Songshan airport, where he landed in a private jet, he also mentioned that he would only stay a few hours and leave after dinner with TSMC leaders.Huang also said that TSMC had invited him to give a speech. In a statement to Reuters, TSMC confirmed that Huang would deliver an internal talk on his “management philosophy” but did not provide further details. Huang added that his visit was also to thank TSMC, where six new chips have been taped out, including a GPU and a silicon photonics processor designed for Nvidia’s upcoming Rubin-architecture supercomputers. “Tape out” refers to the stage when a chip’s design is finalised and ready for production.“This is the first architecture in our history where every single chip is new and revolutionary. We’ve taped out all of the chips,” Huang confirmed.Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump allowed China to access more advanced Nvidia chips beyond the H20. Reuters previously reported that Nvidia has also started developing a new Blackwell-based chip, the B30A, which would surpass the H20. Huang said discussions with the US are ongoing, but stressed that the decision ultimately rests with the government.“It’s up to, of course, the US government, and we are in dialogue with them, but it is too soon to know,” Huang explained. In July, Nvidia regained approval to sell its China-specific H20 chips after an April halt. It reportedly ordered 300,000 units from TSMC to meet strong demand. Soon after, Chinese regulators and state media raised security concerns, warning local firms about potential risks. Nvidia denied its chips carried any backdoor threats. However, Chinese regulators have warned local tech firms against buying Nvidia’s H20 chips over security concerns. Nvidia has reportedly asked suppliers, including Foxconn, Amkor, and Samsung, to halt H20-related work. However, CEO Jensen Huang said the company already has a large inventory and is waiting for orders from China.“When we receive the orders, we will be able to purchase more,” Huang noted. In a statement, a Nvidia spokesperson said: “We constantly manage our supply chain to address market conditions. As both governments recognise, the H20 is not a military product or for government infrastructure.”Huang said sending H20 chips to China posed no national security risk and welcomed the approval. Earlier this month, the Trump administration also struck a deal with Nvidia and AMD, requiring the US government to receive 15% of revenue from certain advanced chip sales in China.

The enemy of my enemy: When Elon Musk asked one of his biggest rival to help buy OpenAI

Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg don’t have the friendliest of history, but you must have heard the saying that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and that stands true here. Court filings revealed that Musk approached Meta CEO Zuckerberg to help finance his $97.4 billion bid to acquire Openai in February, despite their public feuds and Meta’s direct competition with OpenAI.The Tesla billionaire identified Zuckerberg as one of the people he had communicated with about potentially financing the ChatGPT maker purchase, according to OpenAI’s court filing. However, neither Zuckerberg nor Meta signed the letter of intent or participated in the massive takeover attempt, which OpenAI’s board formally rejected.

Elon Musk wants OpenAI back

Musk co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman in 2015 before leaving the company’s board in 2018 and launching rival Xai in 2023. He has since sued OpenAI twice for allegedly breaching its founding principles by prioritizing commercial interests over public good, and has sought to block the company’s restructuring efforts. The $97.4 billion takeover attempt represents Musk’s boldest move yet to regain control of the AI company he helped create. His willingness to approach even longtime rival Zuckerberg—whom he once challenged to a literal cage fight—shows the extraordinary lengths he’ll go to wrestle OpenAI away from Sam Altman and Microsoft’s influence. The bid reportedly had backing from Musk’s usual investors including Valor Equity Partners, Baron Capital, and media executive Ari Emanuel, suggesting serious financial firepower behind the effort. The failed bid also reveals how Musk’s public criticism of OpenAI’s for-profit pivot may have been strategic positioning for an eventual acquisition attempt. His relentless legal challenges, viewed through this lens, appear less about upholding founding principles and more about creating financial and reputational pressure to force OpenAI into a vulnerable position where a hostile takeover might succeed.

Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg is fighting for the AI Supremacy

Zuckerberg’s main concern doesn’t seem to be OpenAI, but taking the lead in the AI wars, which has created a spur between the CEO of two companies. Altman, who was once praising Zuckerberg’s hiring practices, has lashed out at him for trying to create an AI talent exodus from OpenAI. Meta’s aggressive $100 million pay packages have successfully poached several key OpenAI researchers, including Shengjia Zhao, Shuchao Bi, Jiahui Yu, and Hongyu Ren.The social media giant’s hiring spree extends beyond OpenAI, netting major industry figures like former GitHub chief Nat Friedman and Scale AI’s former CEO Alexandr Wang for its superintelligence division. OpenAI has requested that the judge compel Meta to turn over documentation related to any communications with Musk about the failed bid, though Meta argues it holds no evidence of coordination since it never participated in the acquisition attempt.

'ECI stands totally exposed & discredited': Congress hails SC verdict on Bihar SIR; claims democracy survived 'brutal assault' | India News

Bihar SIR: SC Slams Political Parties’ Silence, Directs Poll Panel To Accept Aadhaar Or 11 Documents

NEW DELHI: Congress on Friday welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming that the Election Commission of India (ECI) stands “totally exposed and discredited.”Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, in a post on X, welcomed the ruling, saying that the democracy had survived a “brutal assault” from the EC.“The INC welcomes today’s verdict of the Supreme Court on the Bihar SIR issue. Democracy has survived a brutal assault from the Election Commission of India (ECI). On August 14th, the Supreme Court had intervened to set aside the ECI’s decision to withhold the list of deleted voters. The Supreme Court had directed that the list of deleted voters must be published ALONG WITH the reasons for such deletions,” Jairam posted on X.“Today, the ECI stands totally exposed and discredited. Its G2 puppeteers stand decisively defeated,” he added.Congress’ remarks came after the Supreme Court directed the ECI to allow excluded voters to file their claims both online and offline during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar.Ramesh further noted that on August 14, the top court had already struck down the ECI’s move to withhold the list of deleted voters and ordered its publication along with reasons for deletions.“On August 14th, the Supreme Court had also directed the ECI to accept Aadhar cards as proof of identity for those deleted. Today it reaffirmed Aadhar as a valid ID that the ECI MUST accept. Today, the Supreme Court has laid down guardrails to make the revision more inclusive by including political parties in the process,” the Congress leader posted.Taking aim at the poll body’s functioning, Ramesh added, “So far the ECI’s approach has been obstructionist and contrary to the interests of the voters. We welcome this judgment especially because it gives us an enforceable right which the ECI cannot ignore.”Earlier in the day, a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi also ruled that claim forms could be submitted with an Aadhaar number or any one of the 11 recognised identity documents.Noting with concern that political parties had not filed objections regarding the exclusion of nearly 65 lakh voters, the Court directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar to include them as parties to the proceedings.“We will allow online submission of claims of deleted voters with Aadhaar card or any other acceptable documents for Bihar SIR,” the bench said, as quoted by PTI.“All the political parties shall file the status report by the next date of hearing on the claim form they had facilitated in filing by excluded voters,” the bench added. The matter has been posted for hearing on September 8.Meanwhile, senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi, appearing for the ECI, requested the Court to grant the poll panel 15 days to establish that no wrongful exclusions had taken place.

Amit Shah defended the bill sacked in jail, citing Arvind Kejriwal.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday defended three new bills, citing former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, which aims to remove any Prime Minister, Chief Minister or Minister from the post for 30 consecutive days. Referring to Kejriwal being in power despite being detained, Shah questioned whether the constitution should be amended to deal with such situations.

The Union Minister’s office wrote in a post on X, “Recently an incident happened, the Chief Minister of Delhi was running the government despite being lodged in jail. So should the constitution be amended or not?”

Kejriwal was arrested in March last year after ignoring nine summons of Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor scam. He became the first Chief Minister to be arrested while holding office in Indian history.

Shah insisted that the proposed bill is not targeted on any one party. He said, “It is the responsibility of both the ruling and the opposition to maintain the norms of morality in democracy. This bill is not for any one party. It will apply to the Chief Ministers of the BJP as well as the Prime Minister.”

The Home Minister also questioned whether it is acceptable to run the government from jail?

Does the people of the country want any Prime Minister, Chief Minister or Minister to run the government by staying in jail? When the constitution was created, it was not even imagined that such shameless people would refuse to resign even after going to jail. That is why no such provision was placed in the constitution. “

Three Bills – Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025; Union Territory Government (Amendment) Bill, 2025; And the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2025 – was introduced in Parliament earlier this week.

He proposes that any Prime Minister, Chief Minister or Minister, who is arrested for a crime of at least five years and detained for 30 days, will be removed from his own post on his own 31st day. The President or Governor, according to his jurisdiction, will have the right to dismiss them.
