The Mahananda and Kankai rivers of Purnia, Kishanganj and Araria districts are in spate due to heavy rains in the border country Nepal. The flood water has entered the villages of these districts. The river has started to cut. Due to this, hundreds of villagers have started displacing their homes by themselves.

Especially in Amour, Baisa, Baisi and Thakurganj and Bahadurganj blocks of Purnia district, the flood waters and the strong flow of the river have created havoc. There is even more destruction in Gagaria village under Kharudah Panchayat of Thakurganj block of Kishanganj district. Seeing a mosque in the village, the Kankai river collapsed.

Not only this, but in this village of 400 houses, about 120 houses have been absorbed in the Kankai river so far. People are running away from the village. Even all the roads have been swallowed up by the river. People in Kishanganj and Purnia districts are suffering due to floods.

The people of Gagaria village told that 120 houses in their village were submerged in the river. The administration and the government are silent in the matter of rescue and anti-erosion work. Crops in hundreds of acres of land have also been destroyed. Villagers have to wander from door to door for living and bread for two times. The people of the administration have not even come to peek. Villagers told that every year floods cause havoc in this village. Every time assurance and assurance is given by the government and administration. But till date no effort has been made to avoid the devastation caused by the floods.
