Subhash Chawla has resigned as the President of Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee. Recently, councilor Gurcharan Jeet Singh Kala from Ward No. 20 had joined BJP. Earlier last year, before the mayoral elections, former Congress leader Davinder Singh Babla had also left the party. His wife Harpreet Kaur Babla, who won the councilor's election on a Congress ticket, also went to the BJP.
Out of the total 35 seats in the corporation, only 8 seats of Congress came. Out of which now 6 seats were left in the corporation. At the same time, former Congress chief Pradeep Chhabra also went to Aam Aadmi Party due to estrangement with Subhash Chawla. Chawla had taken over the post of state president only about a quarter of a year ago.
On 5 April, Subhash Chawla wrote on Facebook that he is in a dilemma and wants to take a decision.
So far, it has not been made clear by Subhash Chawla as to why he has sent his resignation to the party high command. Recently, Chawla was very disappointed when Gurcharan Jeet Singh Kala joined the BJP. He was very sad in his video message. At the same time, he accused the BJP of putting political dacoity. Subhash Chawla was associated with Congress for the last 4 decades. He has good relations with former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.
Discussions started for the name of the new president
Now the discussions have started about who will be the next president in Congress. According to sources, many senior Congress leaders have now started applying their emphasis and recommendations. The Congress high command can announce the name of the new president at any time once Subhash Chawla's resignation is formally accepted. Several names can be considered for the Congress President. These include HS Lucky, Senior Congressman and Advocate Pawan Kumar, DD Jindal and former Mayor Kamlesh, Bhupendra Singh Barhedi etc.
