In April-May and June, only Rs 4.50 crore could be recovered from government departments.
The Municipal Corporation is patting its back by collecting more than 42 crore property tax and garbage charges from the common people in the three months of April, May and June of this financial year itself. But, the recovery from government buildings seems completely helpless. Holding tax of more than 60 crores is pending on government buildings. Despite lakhs of efforts, only 4.50 crore has been recovered in this three months.
According to the information received in the Bhaskar investigation, there are 2,173 such properties of government departments in the city, whose holding tax has not been deposited for years. Year after year the tax has increased to about 60 crores. A few months ago, the Building Construction Department was made the nodal agency for collection of tax from government property, as the maximum number of buildings are under this department. But it did not get any benefit. Education Department owes maximum 27 crores
The education department is at the top among those who do not pay the holding tax. He has tax dues of more than Rs 27 crore 50 lakh on 194 holdings and properties. Penalty has also been imposed for non-payment of tax for many years. But the department doesn’t care. Out of this entire dues of the Education Department, AN College alone owes Rs 10 crore 27 lakh. There are many such departments, which have not paid even a single rupee of holding tax since 1995 i.e. 25 years. But the Municipal Corporation has not been able to take any action against these departments.
The Municipal Corporation created a new record by collecting property tax of Rs 42 crore from the people of the city in three months.
Big difference between common people and government departments
The collection of holding and garbage tax from the people of the city is being done very fast by the Municipal Corporation. In the financial year 2021-22, more than 98 crores were recovered. In this, 95 percent of the amount was recovered from the common people. Similarly, this time in the beginning of 2022-23 also a new record is being made by collecting the money from the common people. But till now the Municipal Corporation has been able to recover only Rs 4.5 crore as holding tax from government buildings and properties. With this difference of recovery, the whole matter becomes clear and clear how the corporation has been avoiding taking action against any government departments.
Double standards
If the common man does not pay the tax; The Municipal Corporation issues a notice to him. After this, after giving another notice, he is given 21 days time. Even after this, if the tax is not paid, the Municipal Corporation can even cut the electricity and water connection of the holding. Not only this, after this the property is even attached and tax is collected from it.
If the government department does not submit; The Municipal Corporation only gives notice to the head of that building. If the tax is not deposited even after giving the notice, then the Municipal Corporation informs the Urban Bodies Department in this regard. Any action can be taken by the local municipal corporation only after getting permission for any kind of action from the municipal department. Whereas no action is taken in the name of action.
