Ahmedabad: The communal atmosphere in the country has become tense after Nupur Sharma made an insulting remark on Muhammad Payangbar on a TV debate. Kripal Rawal, a 33-year-old lawyer from Ahmedabad, received threats when he posted a photo of Nupur Sharma on WhatsApp status amid fears over the killings in Udaipur and Amravati for supporting Nupur Sharma.
Just three minutes after the photo was posted, a stranger called and threatened to support Nupur Sharma. Although the incident took place in June, the lawyers, who felt insecure after the Udaipur and Amravati incidents, lodged a complaint at the Sabarmati police station on Tuesday.
Sabarmati police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation. Rawal said in his complaint that Nupur Sharma and her children were receiving threats after Nupur Sharma’s comments on the Prophet. So on June 13 I decided to support him by posting his photo as his WhatsApp status, but within three minutes he received a threatening phone call. However, he immediately deleted the photo. The events in Udaipur and Amravati are terrifying.
Kripal Rawal further said that he was leaving the city after receiving threats. After inquiring with a friend, it was found out that a person named Safin Gena took a screenshot of his WhatsApp status and shared it in various groups. He then received a threat from a stranger.
