Ahmedabad : Three 50-year-old colleges in Ahmedabad are on the verge of closure. These 3 colleges include Sabarmati Arts and Commerce College, Sahajanand Arts and Commerce College and HK Arts College. Of these, the management has applied to Gujarat University and Gujarat Government to close Sabarmati Arts College.
Millions spent against a grant of 50 thousand
The economic condition of these colleges has deteriorated. Colleges older than 50 years have applied for closure, costing millions against a grant of just Rs 40,000-50,000.
Approximately 800 students are studying in Sabarmati Arts and Commerce College located in Sabarmati area. The management college has applied for closure following the deteriorating financial condition of Sabarmati Arts and Commerce College. The management has made this application to the government.
No manpower for 8 years: Director
Amit Upadhyay, director, Sabarmati Arts and Commerce College, said the college does not have a regular staff of clerks and sweepers. The office has no staff who can work online as well as in English. 6-7 men are not in the office, not pawnbrokers, not sweepers and not even watchmen.
These vacancies are causing many difficulties. Submissions have been made to Gujarat University and Gujarat Government to fill these vacancies, but this has been the case for 8 years. The college has now applied to close legally as the space was not sanctioned.
Decision to close Main subjects in two colleges
Sahajanand Arts and Commerce College in Ambawadi and HK Arts College on Ashram Road have applied for closure of certain subjects. In which application has been made to make social science and political science subjects in HK Arts College as a secondary option from Maine.
