Mumbai: Food is very important for living life and insulting food means disrespecting God. According to the scriptures, mother Annapurna and Goddess Lakshmi do not reside in the house where food is insulted. The treasury of grain is emptied. In Sanatan Dharma, rules have been made to do every work properly. In the same way, some rules regarding food are also mentioned in the scriptures. Adherence to this will never lead to a shortage of food in the home.
Every grain of food is honorable. People have a habit of washing their hands on the plate after a meal. In fact, this is inauspicious. It is believed that washing one’s hands on a plate insults the remaining particles of food. Doing so leads to poverty in the home.
One who does not understand the importance of food becomes a partner in sin. The meal on the plate should be taken as much as we can eat. It is believed that putting food on a plate does not keep the house clean. Putting eight meals on a plate is a waste of food, which annoys mother Annapurna.

According to the scriptures, it is considered unlucky to have three loaves of bread together while serving food. It is believed that a plate of three loaves of bread is dedicated to the dead. Three loaves of bread are kept in the name plate of the person who dies. Three loaves of bread are kept to be sacrificed to the dead before its Triodashi sacrament.
