Questions have been raised on the services of Lion Company many times in the Municipal House.
The Municipal Corporation has issued a show cause notice to the Lion Company, which looks after the cleaning work on roads etc. in the southern sectors of Chandigarh. Rajesh Tank, a sanitation worker working under this company, allegedly committed suicide due to non-payment of salary on time. After which the sanitation workers went on strike this morning. After this, now the corporation can take action against the company.
A show-cause notice has been issued to the Lion Company, asking why appropriate action should not be taken against it under the terms of the Management Agreement and legal provision. This includes up to the cancellation of the contract. The Municipal Corporation has sought a reply from the company in 7 days. Explain that the opposition has been demanding cancellation of the contract for a long time, highlighting the alleged deficiency in the services of Lion Company. Despite this, the contract corporation had extended the contract from April this year.
The Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has issued this show cause notice to Lion Services Limited, New Delhi. This is regarding proper implementation of the Management Agreement on GIS based manual and machine based cleaning in the southern sectors of the city.
Contract terms not being followed: MoH
The corporation has said that information has been received from the SS/CSI/SI of the respective areas regarding the working of Lion Services. At the same time, a worker allegedly committed suicide due to non-payment of salary. This matter has been taken seriously. At the same time, many deficiencies and negligence in services have come to the fore. In such a situation, it has been found that the true spirit of the Management Agreement is not being followed. This is in breach of the terms and conditions of the contract.
Cleaners do not have this stuff
The corporation has said that monthly reports regarding giving 2 kg mustard oil, 6 tikkis (125 grams) of Dettol soap and 2 kg jaggery to class 4 employees in a month have not been submitted. These include helpers, sweepers, bush cutter operators and laborers. This is required under clause 2.4(d) of the contract.
Negligence on workers’ insurance
On the other hand, the operator has failed to ensure that all the personnel working under it have at least the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (Life Insurance Scheme), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (Accident Insurance Scheme) and Ayushman Bharat (Health Insurance Scheme). or are covered under any other insurance scheme recommended by the Municipal Corporation under clause of the contract.
Health check-up of sanitation workers was not even done
Apart from this, no health check-up of the employees was done till the end in the first three months. No report has been submitted in this regard. It is required under this clause. Apart from this, the salary of the employees was also to be withdrawn from its funds to the Lion Company. It should have been given by 7th of every month. This was also not given. This is evident from the incident of a worker committing suicide due to non-payment of salary.
