In Gujarat(Gujarat) From Gram Panchayat elections(Gram Panchyat Election) OBC reserves (OBC Reservation) Controversy has arisen after removal .. Secretary of State Election Commission has written a letter to all District Collectors. In the Gram Panchayat elections, it has been decided to field an OBC candidate for the general seat, which was reserved for OBC candidates in the last election. Then BJP leader Alpesh Thakore demanded that the OBC community get 27 per cent instead of the reserved 10 per cent.

Alpesh Thakore demanded 27 per cent OBC reserve

On the one hand, Alpesh Thakore is demanding 27 per cent OBC reservation while on the other hand, another BJP leader Varun Patel has also demanded reservation in the elections for the EWS category. So the BJP has made it clear again that the Congress is trying to mislead the OBC community. The BJP regime has never planned to hold an election without the reservation of the OBC community.

In this regard, Congress MLA Poonja Vanshe wrote a letter to the Chief Minister accusing him of tampering with the Constitution. He said that 10 per cent OBCs would not be reserved for the Election Commission’s decision. The commission said it had complied with the apex court order. Revenue Minister Rajendra Trivedi said the election commission could take a decision on its own.

Following the order of the Supreme Court, the Gujarat State Election Commission has started the process of holding elections in the remaining 3252 Gram Panchayats in the state in view of the judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court dated May 10, 2022 and suggested to convert OBC seats into general seats. Is done.

Significantly, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court on the issue of implementation of OBC reservation in the local body elections in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh in the year 2021. On January 19, the Supreme Court directed all the states to form committees to determine the reservation of population criteria. Swaraj elections were held. But no decision has been taken by the state government even six months after the Supreme Court’s verdict.
