Voting was held in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on Monday for the election of the President of the country. Of the 81 MLAs of the state, 80 cast their votes. Inderjit Mahato, ailing BJP MLA, could not come to vote. After the voting ended, BJP chief whip Viranchi Narayan claimed that more than 65 MLAs voted in favor of Draupadi Murmu in this election. It has more than half a dozen Congress MLAs.

Viranchi Narayan said that the concerned Congress MLAs have voted in favor of Draupadi Murmu only on the voice of conscience. Congress Legislature Party leader and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Alamgir Alam called the claim of BJP chief whip Viranchi Narayan a white lie. Said, this is a complete misrepresentation. No Congress MLA has done cross waiting. He said how did Viranchi calculate that more than 65 MLAs voted in favor of Draupadi Murmu. Alam said that following the guidelines of the high command, all the Congress MLAs have cast their votes. Congress MLA Naman Vixal Kengadi also termed the BJP leader’s claim as a lie.

Draupadi Murmu’s victory margin set to increase after cross voting

New Delhi| Voting took place on Monday to elect the country’s 15th President. The contest is between NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu and opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha. The Election Commission reported that 771 Members of Parliament (5 seats vacant) and 4025 MLAs (6 seats vacant, 2 disqualified) cast 99.18% of the vote. In this way a total of 4,796 MPs-MLAs cast their votes. 100% voting took place in 10 states and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

8 MPs did not vote. Counting of votes will take place on July 21. The new president will take oath on July 25. Cross-waiting is reported in three states in the election. With several non-NDA parties also joining together and cross voting, Murmu can get more than 61% votes. 100% voting in these states: Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Himachal, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Puducherry, Sikkim.

Vice President nomination – Dhankhar can get 467 votes

NDA’s Vice Presidential candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar filed his nomination papers on Monday. The Vice President is elected by the members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha together. The BJP has 394 MPs out of 780 members of both the houses. 391 votes are required for a majority. JD(U)-BJD with 21 MPs and YSR Congress with 31 MPs have also declared their support for Dhankhar. With their support, Dhankhar can get votes of 467 MPs. Dhankhar filed his nomination in the presence of NDA leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda.
