Lakhicharan Baske had withdrawn money from the bank in the name of his wife’s petrol pump employees and private driver.
Land Acquisition Officer (Deputy Collector) Lakhicharan Baske, accused in the embezzlement case of 76 lakhs, surrendered in the court of SDJM Bankimchand Chatterjee on Monday. The court sent him to jail. This matter was disclosed by Dainik Bhaskar. The incident took place between 29 December 2016 and 2 June 2017. Baske was then the Land Acquisition Officer in the Subarnarekha Multipurpose Project (SMP). The land was acquired by the SMP for the canal construction. Lakhicharan Baske is a local, so he conspired with the connivance of the local people to grab the amount of the acquired land of Mongla Murmu. With the connivance of the chief and the local people, fake documents were made.
Mongla Murmu had received a check of Rs 93 lakh in compensation. Before the checks were deposited at Bank of India’s Sundernagar branch, several blank checks were taken from Mongla Murmu, with the help of which about Rs 76 lakh was withdrawn. In this, Pudihasa chief Rahul Baske, AJSU leaders Arjun Tudu and Kunwar Mardi, land mafia Ganesh Tudu were made accused. A named FIR was registered at Sundernagar police station on the statement of Mongla’s uncle.
The team went to Godda to arrest in 2019, returned to Barang
Lakhicharan Baske had withdrawn money from the bank in the name of his wife’s petrol pump employees and private driver. Except Lakhicharan Baske, all the accused were arrested earlier and at present all are out on bail. During the 2019 assembly elections, the then SSP Anoop Birthare had sent a team to Godda to arrest Lakhicharan Baske. But being an election officer in the election, the arrest was postponed due to the intervention of the local administrative officials of Godda.
