Surat: Following continuous vomiting and severe diarrhoea, a four-year-old girl from Navagam locality of Dindoli died at New Civil Hospital (NCH) on Saturday. Deceased Hansika Gautam’s family members told the doctors that the girl developed severe health complications at around 4am on Saturday.
She was first taken to a private hospital but her health did not improve and later had to be shifted to the NCH where she died during treatment. Her father Suraj, an employee of a dying mill, said that his daughter never had any other health complications earlier.
The girl initially complained of pain in her stomach and later started to suffer from vomiting and loose motion. As her condition continued to deteriorate, the parents decided to take her to hospital.
“It is a case of acute gastroenteritis and a child’s condition can become critical due to dehydration. Children showing symptoms of gastroenteritis should be provided immediate medical assistance,” a health official told TOI.
“We will inquire in what condition the girl had died. We are yet to examine the case in detail,” the officer added.
Meanwhile, the health department of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) claimed that there is no significant rise in water-borne or vector-borne diseases since the start of monsoon.
