In Goa, the Congress is on the verge of collapse
In Goa, the Congress has only 11 MLAs, of which nine are now likely to join the BJP. If this happens then the party will break up and no action can be taken against the MLAs who change parties. Because their number is much higher than the total number of MLAs.
Will history repeat itself in Goa?
The rebels are said to include former CM Digambar Kamat, who may join the BJP. Earlier in 2019, a number of MLAs had joined the BJP, tweaking the Congress. After which that history may be repeated once again. Digambar Kamat, Michael Lobo, Yuri Alemao, Sankalp Amonkar, Dilaiba Lobo, Alex Sikkero, Kedar Nayak and Rajesh Faldesai may leave the Congress and join the BJP.
On speculation of joining the BJP, senior Congress leader and MLA Digambar Kamat said such talk has been going on for a long time. I’m at home right now. Congress in-charge Dinesh Gundurao is present in Goa and is trying to persuade the MLAs by contacting them.
Earlier, in-charge Dinesh Gundurav convened a meeting of the Legislative Party on Saturday to formulate a strategy for the Goa Assembly session starting from Monday, which was attended by all 11 MLAs of the party. Interestingly, during the Assembly elections, the Congress took its candidates to different religious places and took an oath of allegiance to the party.
