When anxiety increases, a person resorts to physical activity to reduce stress, “This physical activity is called compulsion. This type of obsession and compulsion is beyond a person’s control.

In 2020 since Corona (Corona ) pandemic has affected the entire world, since experts (Experts ) People wash their hands regularly with soap and water (Hands ) are advising to wash or sanitize. While most people have adopted this advice. But some people are very worried about this epidemic and they are also worried about how Covid-19 may affect them. Due to excessive anxiety and fear of infection, these people continue to wash and sanitize their hands excessively, indicating a medical condition called obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). In OCD, biochemical disturbances begin in different parts of the brain. There are various chemicals or neurotransmitters in the brain that are not within their normal range, causing OCD.

Delhi Senior Psychiatrist Dr. Sanjay Chugh told TV9 that OCD has two components. One is an obsession and the other is a compulsion. Dr. Chug explained, “This is often caused by thoughts. The victim keeps having strange thoughts. Frequent occurrence of such thoughts makes the patient feel nervous and restless. The patient cannot stop the thoughts even after he wants to.

OCD has long-term effects

Dr. Chug said that when anxiety rises, a person resorts to physical activity to reduce stress, “This physical action is called a compulsion. This type of obsession and compulsion is beyond a person’s control. Which causes difficulties in the victim’s personal, social and professional life. Long-term effects of OCD include depression, persistent feelings of anxiety, and an increased risk of drug abuse.

These are symptoms of OCD

There are some symptoms associated with OCD that can be early signs of this disorder. The two most common features are: Checkers and Washers “Checkers are people who constantly check that everything is OK, for example – is the gate closed? Is the light off? While there are some people who believe that hands or some place or place are dirty. There is a risk of infection. Because these people feel that the things around them are dirty, they are constantly cleaning.

There is also a third category – symmetry. Such people want things to be done in a certain way just like the things on the table should be in a certain order. Anything that moves slightly out of place causes them stress. Chug said, “I’ve seen thousands of people who have OCD related to sexuality and religion. So the spectrum of OCD is very broad.”

This problem occurs due to genetic reasons

The primary cause of OCD is genetic, as is the case with almost all mental disorders. Dr. “People inherit genes that predispose them to develop the disease,” Chugh said. How strong this gene is depends on how early or late the condition appears and how severe the symptoms are. Unfortunately we do not yet know which genes cause OCD. All we know through various researches is that if a person does not have a certain genetic base, they will not develop the disease.

Is it possible to prevent this disorder?

Dr. Chug said it is not possible to prevent OCD. “If a person is prone to this condition, sooner or later it will appear in him. But early detection of this disease is very important. The sooner it is identified, the sooner treatment can be started and the better results will result. At the same time, its intensity will also be less, due to which its impact on a person’s life will be less.
