  • Amount allocated under RDSS scheme of central government
  • The exposed and dangerous 11 KV power lines will be replaced at a cost of 345 crores

Under the Central Government’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), an amount of 519 crores has been allocated to strengthen the power distribution infrastructure in Kutch, according to which various works will be carried out at a cost of 293 crores in 226 areas under Bhuj circle office and 293 crores under Anjar circle office.

In the main project of the scheme, the exposed 11 KV power lines under the power circle office of East and West Kutch will be replaced at a cost of 345 crores. Besides this, as many as 1685 transformers of 100 to 200, 25 to 63 and 63 to 100 KVA will be replaced. Giving more details in this regard, Bhuj Circle Office Superintendent Engineer Amrit Gurwa said that rubber insulated bunch cables will be laid in place of accident-prone wires. For this, 25 crores have been allocated to Bhuj circle office and 38 crores to Anjar circle office.

Long-lasting chemical earthing will be done at necessary places to avoid accidents due to currents especially during monsoon. More than 95 crores have been allocated for this type of new earthing in Kutchbhar. Thus power distribution infrastructure will be strengthened at a cost of more than 293.64 crores in East Kutch and 226.24 crores in West Kutch Power Circle Office at a cost of more than 519.88 crores, he added.

Kutch will not be included in the smart meter scheme
In cities like Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, PGVCL will provide smart meters to electricity consumers in the near future, which will have a card with a specific price like a mobile phone SIM. Power will be consumed according to the value of the card and will have to be recharged when empty. This will get exemption from electricity bill. Currently Kutch has not been allocated funds in the RDSS scheme and the district has been excluded.
Works will be reviewed by Vidyut Committee
During the implementation of the scheme, an Electricity Committee will be formed to seek input and suggestions from public representatives. The chairman of this committee will be MP Vinod Chavda while the member secretary will be the collector. Apart from this, five MLAs from Kutch will serve as members, excluding the district panchayat president and Bhuj. Superintending Engineers of Bhuj and Anjar Power Circle Office have been assigned the responsibility of convener in the committee.
