The Union Ministry of Agriculture released the production estimate of horticulture crops in 2021-22. The production of vegetables and fruits will increase. Consumers will get relief from inflation.

All three could have bumper yields, Union Agriculture Ministry officials said. Onion production could reach 31.70 million tonnes this year as against 26.64 million tonnes in 2020-21. Similarly, potato production in 2020-21 was 56.17 million tonnes which is expected to be 53.58 million tonnes in 2021-22. Similarly, tomato production is expected to be 20.34 million tonnes in 2020-21 as against 21.18 million tonnes. As the prices of these three rise, the effect of inflation intensifies. The Central Government has released another preliminary estimate of area and production of various horticultural crops for 2021-22. These estimates are meant to relieve the pockets of the public.
According to estimates released by the Ministry of Agriculture, the total horticultural production is estimated at 341.63 million tonnes, which is about 7.03 million tonnes more than 2020-21 (final). Production has increased by about 2.10 per cent. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has expressed happiness over the increase in production. He said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the policies of the government, the hard work of horticultural farmers and the contribution of our scientists have resulted in record production.
What will be the fruit production?
Production of fruits, vegetables and honey is estimated to increase over last year. Fruit production is estimated at 107.10 million tonnes as against 102.48 million tonnes in 2020-21. While the production of vegetables is estimated at 204.61 million tonnes in 2020-21 as against 200.45 million tonnes. This announcement of production has been made by the Union Ministry of Agriculture based on the information received from the States, Union Territories and other government agencies.
