SCt Awards 4-month Jail Sentence And Imposes Rs 2000 Fine On Fugitive Businessman Vijay Mallya

Vijay Mallya News: The Supreme Court sentenced fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya to four months in jail and fined him Rs 2,000. Mallya was convicted of contempt of court in 2017. Punishment has been pronounced in this case. The court also said that if the fine is not paid, an additional sentence of 2 months will be imposed. Apart from this, Vijay Mallya was also strictly ordered to pay 40 40 million transferred abroad in 4 weeks.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court has reportedly given the verdict. These include Justice U U Lalit, Justice S Ravindra Bhatt and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia. Mallya has given false information to the court about transferring money to foreign accounts, but has also increased contempt of court by not appearing in court for the last five years. Mallya was convicted of contempt by the Supreme Court in 2017.

The court gave him one last chance to defend himself

The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing to February 10, giving Mallya one last chance to defend himself. The court said in no uncertain terms that the conviction proceedings would not be stayed if the convict did not appear at the next hearing or put the party through his lawyer.
