Navsari district was devastated by heavy rains and floods in three rivers. The inter-ministerial team of the center which came to inspect the situation then visited Navsari city today after visiting the rural areas. Today, the municipal administration shifted the central team members to Vijalpore instead of the flood-affected areas of the city, which also led to many arguments.
Torrential rains created desolation in the district
Navsari district experienced torrential rains from July 7 to 15. Due to torrential rains in the upper reaches including Navsari, Cauvery, Ambika and Purna rivers of the district were flooded. So many villages on the banks of the river and low-lying areas of the cities have been desolated. Many roads, pools and houses were damaged due to rushing flood water. At that time, a team of four members including Sanjiv Sehgal, Joint Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Home of Disaster Management of the Ministry of Home Affairs, inspected the situation again in the flood-affected areas of Navsari district for two days with the local authorities.

While the central team was to visit the flood affected area of Navsari city today. But instead of the flood affected area, the CO shifted them to areas where there was no flood situation. Because of this, the team could not reach Dussehra Hill, Bhensatkhada, Gadhewan Mohllo, Shantadevi Road, where there was flood situation in the city. Later, the team returned after visiting the city’s main filtration plant.
Assessed loss of life and property damage
The inspection by the central disaster management team has revealed that there has been heavy damage due to heavy rains and floods in Navsari district in the last few days. In which the farmers are the most affected, 11,254 farmers have suffered a loss of more than 4 crores with over 3 thousand hectares in 87 villages in the district. Flood damage has been reported in 62 villages in the district. In which 16 houses were completely destroyed with 40 raw houses being damaged. 277 electricity poles and 2 transmissions were damaged in the district. 88 shrimp ponds in Kantha were also damaged. A total of 6 people lost their lives and 85 animals were reported dead during the flood. After a two-day visit to Navsari, the home affairs team of the center will prepare a preliminary report and submit it to the central government, based on which the government is likely to announce a relief package.
