The central government has signed an agreement with a leading naval company to build the first ever solar powered electric boat under the Sagarmala project for fast boat travel through waterways in the country’s rivers, bays and seas. Boats will soon run on solar energy in Mumbai as Mumbai has nice and clear sunshine after four-five months of monsoon. The Government of West Bengal has signed an agreement with one of the country’s leading shipbuilding companies for the design and construction of the next generation electric water taxi. The boat will replace the conventional diesel-powered boats in the Hooghly river.

A revolution in water transport will be served from Haldia to Varanasi under Ministry of Shipping. It used to take about an hour and a half to reach Gateway of India from Belapur in Navi Mumbai to Elephanta and cost one to one and a half thousand rupees. With the introduction of water taxi in the month of February, it is possible to reach Elephanta from Belapur in just 20 minutes for Rs 850. Water taxi water transport service to Vasai Bay and Dombivli will start after monsoon.
