MEA: e-Chip based Indian passports likely to launch by 2022 end

HYDERABAD: Ausaf Sayeed, Secretary (CPV & OIA), Ministry of External Affairs, told in Hyderabad that the MEA is planning to introduce e-Passports by the end of 2022.
The MEA official visited Hyderabad and interacted with Telangana Chief Secretary, Somesh Kumar and Telangana DGP, Mahender Reddy and reviewed migration related issues.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday at RPO office in Secunderabad and said, “all efforts are in full swing and soon, an agreement with agency concerned will be also in progress to prepare electronic chip based Passports.
He too explained about features.of e-Passports, that the personal particulars of an applicant would be digitally stored in the chip that would be embedded in the passport booklet.
This e-Passports will have advanced security features,and looks the same as the current Machine Readable Passport (MRP).
MEA official also added that an electronic chip, will have the same information that is printed on the passport’s data page, including, the holder’s name, date of birth, photograph, and address.
Hyderabad Regional Passport Officer, Dasari Balaiah also at present.
