  • The condition of the students worsened in monsoon, there was a demand that ST bus service should be started

Students from the tribal hilly areas of Vansada are facing a lot of difficulties for education. More than 100 students walk dangerously across hilly roads to reach the higher secondary school in Boriyach village, 8 to 10 km away. In monsoon, the condition of students becomes worse. Then there is a demand that the government should start ST bus service.

Khataamba village is very big in terms of area
Many villages of Vansda taluka of Navsari district are in hilly areas. In which Khataamba village, one of the villages near the border of Maharashtra, is very large in terms of area. More than 100 students go to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Higher Secondary School in Boriyach village, 6 km away from this village with 19 paliyas and a population of approximately 10 thousand. These students from poor tribal areas walk from their homes on the hills to Khataamba main road and from there cover a distance of 8 to 10 km to reach school. Due to which students reach school at 2 to 2 and a half hours.

Mud slush on roads like hilly and unpaved trails
Most of the time of the students is spent in commuting so that it has a great impact on their studies. Students cannot even study at home due to fatigue. In monsoon, the situation worsens. The roads are hilly and unpaved and muddy, while at many places one has to wade through gushing water. During heavy rains, the risk of water inflow into ravines or drains also increases. Also, clothes and books get soaked in rain. So there is a problem in studies.
ST bus service stopped due to lack of passenger numbers

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Higher Secondary School located in Boriach, one of the best schools in Vansda taluk has a total of 450 students studying in class 9 to 12. The school also has a Kumar and Kanya hostel, but more than 150 students from the 6 surrounding villages of Rangpur, Boriyach, Lachkadi, Khataamba, Nawapur, Vansiyatalav are boarded from home. Since this area is an interior area, the ST bus service was stopped due to lack of number of passengers. Because of this, children from hilly areas like Khataamba have to walk dangerously for hours on foot to reach school. Students from poor financial status show enthusiasm in other activities including education, but their interest in studies decreases due to fatigue with deterioration in daily walking of 4 to 5 hours. But school teachers and village leaders hope that if the ST bus service starts, if the students remain physically and mentally fit, their future will also be bright.
Students maintained their enthusiasm towards learning

Despite having to walk for hours to reach school, the students have maintained their enthusiasm towards learning. Gujarat government has also been demanded to start ST bus service keeping in mind the interest of tribal students.
