The current level of Dharoi Reservoir has crossed 619 feet as against the maximum level of 622 feet and the water volume has reached close to 616 million cubic meters against the gross storage capacity of 813.14 million cubic meters and more than 77.4 percent of the capacity is reported to have been collected. Dharoi Dam continues to receive 64,060 cusecs of water and 6 gates of the dam have been opened up to five feet as a precautionary measure. More than 16 thousand cusecs of water is being released into the Sabarmati river of Hethwas, which is received by sources of the dam site. When the canals on both sides were found, a total of 17,950 cusecs of water has been released.

Water is being released through four gates as well as right bank main canal and left bank canal. Dharoi Dam has collected 616 million cubic meters of water. Still, due to heavy rain in the upper part of the country, the water is beginning to flow. The water level in Dharoi Dam is only 3 feet below the maximum level and the water level is gradually rising. This year, for the first time, such a large quantity of water has started flowing into Dharoi Dam. Rainy conditions are still in place and more water is likely to be released in the Hethwas before the water level in the dam reaches alarming levels in the coming days.

7 cities and 512 villages will get potable water

At one point, two days ago, 1,43,610 cusecs of water started flowing into the Dharoi reservoir from upstream and the water level in the dam rose dramatically. Seven cities and 512 villages of North Gujarat will be freed from the problem of clean drinking water as 88.5 percent of the water supply is collected in the reservoir. Besides, there will be no draft of water even for sun irrigation. The dam is still likely to become more waterlogged.

The villages of Hethwas were alerted

An alert has been declared by the administration in the villages near the banks of the Sabarmati River in the Hethwas area of ​​Dharoi Dam. Villagers have been urged not to go towards the river bed and to be careful. There are 28 villages in Hethwas that will be affected when the dam gates are opened. Sabarmati is flowing on two banks as water is released from the dam.
