VADODARA: It’s pouring jobs for budding engineers from MS University‘s Faculty of Technology and Engineering (FTE), so much so that the department has registered almost double the placements this year.
As many as 535 students from the 2021-22 batch of faculty – the highest ever placement that the faculty has witnessed till date – have received placements this time.
Going by the data of the past six years, the faculty had witnessed placements of 245 students in the academic year 2016-17.
In 2017-18, the number of placements had declined to 191 followed by an improvement in 2018-19 when 252 students got placements. During 2019-20, the placements once again dipped to 201 but rose to 236 in 2020-21.
In terms of percentage, if 47% of total students of 2016-17 batch were placed, this figure turned around in five years to touch 74% for the 2021-22 batch.
“During the two years of Covid-19, when teaching and all activities had shifted online, our faculty was co-ordinating with recruiters but most of it was happening online,” said Dr Jayendra Shah, head of training and placement cell at FTE.
This year, the recruiters could physically visit the campus, see the infrastructure, test the capabilities of students and conduct interviews in person. “We had started the placement process for the 2021-22 batch in July 2021 and continued till July 30 and saw the highest number of students getting placed,” Shah said.
“In all, 180 companies participated in the recruitment drive carried out for the batch that passed out in June this year,” he added.
The recruiters include companies like TCS, Oracle, Infosys, Mafatlal, L&T, Arvind Mills, Linde, Headout, TBA, Adani, JSW, Phillips Carbon Black, Torrent Power, GNFC, Essar, Jio Design, Jindal Saw Limited, Nyara Energy, Donear, Gujarat Gas Limited, Dipak Nitrite, Reliance, Wonder Cement, Ceat Tyres, AMNS, Siemens, Conga, Matrix, Investis Digital, Shredier Electric, JCB India among others.
Interestingly, the faculty has also started the placement process for the 2022-23 batch that will be passing out next year. “Recruiters have already hired 11 students from computer science, electrical and mechanical engineering departments with offers in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 6.5 lakh per annum,” Shah added.
