- A producer and writer of a Gujarati film filed an application in the Gujarat High Court
- Set aside the order of the Board rejecting the submission seeking increase in subsidy: Petitioner
- 12 Gujarati films illegally paid crores under new subsidy policy-2019
A producer and writer of a Gujarati film has petitioned the High Court that the chairpersons of the Film Screening Committee of the State Information Department on 4th April-2022 received for his film Rs. 5 lakhs rejected the demand for increase in subsidy, set aside the order. Also, revoke the resolution issued on 5-Dec-2019 regarding government subsidy to Gujarati film. The hearing on this application will be held on September 15. In the past, following the High Court order, submitted to the authorities but they rejected it.
In the petition, the petitioner submits that around 12 Gujarati films have been paid crores of rupees under the new subsidy policy-2019, instead of paying subsidy as per the old subsidy policy-2016. All these films have been released in the year 2016, 2017 and 2018. All these films are eligible for subsidy as per old subsidy policy-2016. New Subsidy Policy-2019 is effective from 08.03.2019, they cannot get the benefit with retrospective effect. Multiplication or gradation done by pen drive is like a big stick for subsidizing Gujarati films. Government policy should be non-discriminatory of any kind. If these films benefit, then our film should also benefit. As per the old policy, the subsidy had to be applied for usually within a year of the release of the film. According to the new policy, this application has to be made within 13 months.
