Hybrid work: How pets can make your tasks easier

Are you in a hybrid work zone, yet? How about tossing out the stress and adapting some fun into your task schedule? Cuddle up with a cat or dog for company and watch the atmosphere turn lighter, instantly! Studies have pointed out how interacting with animals even for a short while, can lessen levels of cortisol (a stress-related hormone) as well as reduce blood pressure. It is for this reason that in the West, several workplaces are adopting a pet-friendly policy that permits dogs and cats in the workplace, usually considered to be a competitive, challenging arena.

Take a paw-sitive cue from them

While this is not a possibility in offices just yet, those working out of their homes fully or partly can do well with a pet around. Richa Verma, a financial consultant, voices that as she reveals, “My dog was literally my social support for most part of the pandemic, especially when ewe had little or no interaction with anyone else. I can’t let her out of my sight now and so whenever I work, it’s my laptop and my dog on my lap. Except for the odd barking, it’s no distraction and I find that I refocus my energies better.”

Imagine a space where you have sip on coffee, hit the laptop and have purring sounds all around you! That’s the scene at the cat café in Andheri, where people choose to work in the company of the felines. Lamya Kapadia of the cat café shares more. She says, “We see this happening for a lot of corporate folks and even with those who have started their own business. They love to come in, chill and also work. They even do zoom calls with the animals around. The cats video bomb them, but they don’t mind. I guess having the cats around makes for a much-needed destressing feeling.”
