UP: Biscuit baron's son, five others convicted in Jyoti murder case | Kanpur News

KANPUR: A court here on Thursday convicted biscuit baron Om Prakash Shyamdasani’s son Peeyush, his (Peeyush’s) paramour Manisha Makheeja and four others for the sensational murder of Peeyush’s wife Jyoti in 2014. The quantum of punishment will be announced on Friday.
The court acquitted Peeyush’s brothers and mother for want of evidence. Prosecution proceedings against Om Prakash Shyamdasani, who was also chargesheeted in the case, were stopped when he died during the course of trial. The quantum of sentence for the guilty will be pronounced on Friday.
Daughter of Shankar Nagdev , a top businessman of Jabalpur, Jyoti was kidnapped and brutally murdered on July 27, 2014. Jyoti was stabbed 17 times all over her body. As per the sequence of events narrated by Peeyush after the incident, the couple had gone out after dinner when Jyoti was kidnapped, allegedly by his friends. Two hours later her blood-soaked body was recovered from the Panki area.

Going by the circumstantial evidence and the missing gaps in Peeyush’s story about the sequence of events, the local Swarup Nagar police, which was investigating Piyush’s kidnapping complaint, detained him. Following sustained questioning he confessed to his crime and was arrested.
The trial in the case continued for eight years and additional district judge (ADJ-First) Ajay Kumar Tripathi on Thursday held Peeyush, his paramour Manisha Makheeja, driver Awadhesh and associates Ashish, Sonu, and Renu guilty of the crime.
Police investigations revealed that Jyoti’s ‘kidnapping’ was planned by Peeyush himself. The couple went for an outing after dinner when Jyoti was kidnapped and later found murdered. The police charged Peeyush of planning the entire crime which, as per his instructions, was executed by his associates.
