The Punjab Police has taken a woman from Haryana in its custody for allegedly giving him shelter “Waris Punjab De” chief Amritpal Singh and his associate Papalpreet Singh at her home in Kurukshetra district’s Shahbad town, the police said, an indication that the pro-Khalistan preacher might have fled Punjab.

The woman has been identified as Baljit Kaur, a resident of Sidharth Colony of Shahbad, was allegedly in touch with Papalpreet Singh. The woman was taken in custody by the Haryana Police and was handed over to the Punjab Police, said Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria.
“Soon after got the inputs and alerted the Punjab Police that Amrtipal and his friend had stayed at a house in Shahbad town on the intervening night of March 19 and 20. The police have taken the woman in the custody for interrogation,” Bhoria said.

The police officer said initial inputs suggested that the woman was in touch with Papalpreet Singh for the past two years and the initial investigation revealed that he had stayed here on March 19.
“Amritpal Singh stayed in Shahbad for two days; used a scooty bike to travel from Ludhiana to Shahbaad,” IGP Headquarters Sukhchain Singh Gill said at a press conference.
