“Prime Minister Narendra Modi came here yesterday. However, he kept abusing the Congress party and talked nothing about the BJP’s achievements,” the minister said. He added, “BJP took away the membership of Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha after the latter spoke of the party’s corruption. They lost the Karnataka election after this… Congress stands with everyone who raises an objection against the corrupt BJP.”

BJP’s failure in Karnataka elections

After a 10-year absence, the Congress returned to power in Karnataka on May 13 defeating its arch-rival, the BJP. The DKS-Siddaramaiah combination, Congress’ strong local leadership, and victory in wooing women voters were seen as the main reasons that led to the BJP’s failure in the polls in the southern state.

Rahul Gandhi loses Lok Sabha membership

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lost his MP status in March after the Parliament disqualified him as a lawmaker over his Modi surname remarks. The decision came a day after a Surat court sentenced Gandhi to two years in prison in the defamation case. Parliamentary rules say that a member would lose his or her seat if convicted of a crime and sentenced to two or more years in prison.
