Farm Stir: Row over Haryana mantri's 'elope' remark on farm stir | India News

CHANDIGARH: Haryana’s agriculture minister JP Dalal has stoked a controversy as he termed the farmers who took part in the agitation against the now-repealed central farm laws as useless and shady persons whose “wives and daughters had eloped”.
Addressing farmers at Gignow town in Bhiwani district on Sunday, Dalal sarcastically remarked that the protesters who participated in the dharna were so useless that even their wives would not listen to them, and yet, they were taking responsibility for the entire farming community.

“Yahaan bethe rahte the kuch log… kisi pe panch mukadam… ulte-ulte kaam karhe tha (Some people used to sit here [on dharna]… they were facing criminal cases…had committed immoral/illegal acts. Some had their wives eloping with someone, some had daughters running away,” the minister said.

All such people were now coming to him, expressing their desire to associate themselves with him, Dalal claimed.
He went on to add that he refused to associate with such people, and would not hesitate from saying so in public as he had “not taken anything from them”.
