Restoration Of Sanjay Lake Stuck At The Finishing Line
The restoration of Sanjay Lake in east Delhis Trilokpuri, part of Delhi Development Authority’s City of Lakes scheme, is incomplete due to the acquisition of land for pipes. The project aims to supply colonies with water filtered by the waterbody ecosystem. The deadline for rejuvenating the lake was June, but the acquisition of 150 square metres of land for pipe laying is pending. Once the land is acquired, the work will be completed in two-three months. The plan includes lake revival, water augmentation, and the use of treated water from sewage treatment plants, with underground pipes connecting the treatment plant to the lake. The lake will be filled with treated water to augment the groundwater, which will undergo reverse osmosis filtration before being supplied to homes. The rejuvenation of Sanjay Lake is crucial for 24×7 water supply in east Delhi and to enhance Delhi Jal Board’s water resources. The Delhi government is also working on the rejuvenation of other waterbodies, including Roshanara Bagh, Anang Tal Baoli, Baansera, Bhalswa Lake, and a lake in Timarpur, with the aim of redeveloping them into recreational public spaces while boosting the water table.
