Filmmaker Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine As Light’ has been selected for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. It was announced by festival president Iris Knobloch and general delegate Thierry Fremaux during a press conference in Paris. This will be the first Indian film to reach this section of Cannes in the last 30 years. Mrinal Sen’s film ‘Kharij’ was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 1983.
Earlier, Payal Kapadia’s documentary ‘A Night of Knowing Nothing’ won the Oil d’Or (Golden Eye) award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021. This time the Cannes Film Festival will run from May 14 to May 25.
Apart from Payal Kapadia, British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri’s ‘Santosh’ will also be screened at the 77th edition of the film festival. The film will be shown under a certain regard section. Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine As Light’ will be screened alongside 19 most awaited titles, including master director Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness.
What is the story of ‘All We Imagine As Light’?
Payal Kapadia’s film is based on the life of a nurse. Prabha is the main character who is a nurse in this film. The story of the film revolves around his life. Prabha has been separated from her husband for a long time. Suddenly one day she receives a gift given by her husband. From here his whole life changes and his whole life gets disturbed.
