Amir Sarfraz Tamba, the key figure in the 2013 killing of Sarabjit Singh in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Lahore, Pakistan on Sunday, April 14. Amir Sarfraz Tamba was attacked by bike-borne assailants in Islampur area and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, where he died. Randeep Hooda wrote – ‘Karma. Thanks to the unknown man, remembering my sister Dalbir Kaur and sending love to Swapandeep and Poonam, today martyr Sarabjit Singh got justice’

Sarabjit was held in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail for 23 years. Inside the jail, Amir Sarfaraz Tamba and inmates attacked Sarabjit with bricks and iron rods for a week, leading to Sarabjit’s death on 26 June 2013. It is said that Amir Sarfraz Tamba killed Sarabjit on the direction of the ISI.

Randeep Hooda played the role of Sarabjit in Sarabjit Singh’s biopic ‘Sarbjit’. Directed by Omung Kumar, the film featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur. Released in 2016, the film shows Sarabjit inadvertently crossing the India-Pakistan border and being captured by the Pakistani army. His sister Dalbir is fighting to prove her brother innocent.
