Usha Chilukuri comes from a family of bookworms, has plenty of gold medalists, her grandmother teaches physics at the age of 96!

There is a lot of discussion about Usha Chilukuri Vance, the Indian-origin wife of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s running mate or vice presidential candidate JD Vance. If Trump wins the presidential election, Usha will be called America’s Second Lady. Usha is a very educated woman. She grew up in San Diego. Her friends call her a bookworm. Usha was a member of the Democratic Party till 2014. She graduated from Yale Law School and is a lawyer in civil cases.

She has also worked as a clerk for Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Usha and Vance met while studying at Yale Law School. Actually, being a bookworm is in Usha’s DNA. Her father Radhakrishna and mother Lakshmi settled in America in the 1980s. Radhakrishna is the youngest son of father C Rama Shastri. Usha’s grandfather Shastri’s younger brother Dr. Chulukuri Subramanya Shastri retired as a professor of Telugu department in Andhra Pradesh University. He died in 2009. He had won a gold medal in BA Telugu.

Grandma is a professor of physics
His wife Professor Chilukuri Shantama is a professor of physics. She is 96 years old and even today travels 140 km to Vijayanagaram to teach physics. Shantama was born in 1929 and won a gold medal in physics. She started teaching at Andhra Pradesh University in 1956. Shantama received a doctorate from Andhra University in 1956.

Usha will become second lady
If Trump and Vance win the election on November 5, Usha will probably be the first Indian-American to get the status of Second Lady (Vice President’s wife). When Vance accepted his candidacy on Monday after getting sufficient number of delegate votes in the Republican National Convention, his 39-year-old wife was also present. The Vance couple got married in 2014 in Kentucky and in a separate ceremony, they took blessings from the priest following Hindu rituals. Vance has two sons Ivan and Vivek and a daughter Mirabel.

Donald Trump chose Vance as his candidate for the post of Vice President on Monday. Vance was once a critic of Trump but later both became close allies. Trump wrote in a post on his Truth social network, “After much deliberation and considering the talents of many other people, I decided that the best candidate for the post of Vice President is Senator JD Vance of the Great State of Ohio.”
