Not much work could be done in this Parliament session but the discussion on the Constitution was interesting in many ways. New MP Priyanka Gandhi spoke in the Lok Sabha for the first time and to a large extent she spoke well. Rahul Gandhi spoke the next day but there was not as much newness in his speech as there was in Priyanka’s speech.
Other Congress leaders also spoke but all of them accused the Modi government of destroying the Constitution. Now, those whose houses are made of glass should not throw stones at others, but who will explain this to Congress and its leaders?
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, in a speech of 1 hour 10 minutes, accused Congress of changing the Constitution. After Rajnath, Priyanka Gandhi, from the opposition, responded to each of his statements in 31 minutes.
When the opportunity came to reply to the discussion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood up to speak. He enumerated many mistakes of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Smt. Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi which even no Congressman can deny. They began with a letter written by Nehruji to the Chief Ministers in 1952. Then we reached the Emergency imposed on the country by Mrs. Indira Gandhi. Till that emergency, remembering which people still shudder.
He asked the Congressmen, how can you talk about protecting the Constitution by abrogating all the constitutional laws of the common citizen during the Emergency? Modi did not stop here. The Shah Bano case that took place during the tenure of the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was also mentioned.
In fact, the Supreme Court’s decision in the Shah Bano case was overturned by the Rajiv government in order to appease Muslims. Raising this issue, the Prime Minister said that those who could not respect the decision of the Supreme Court during their governments, how can they talk about protecting the Constitution?
During the discussion on the Constitution on Saturday, PM Narendra Modi called Congress a party that hunts the Constitution. He gave a speech of 1 hour 49 minutes.
Not only this, he also reminded the incident of Rahul Gandhi publicly tearing the decision of the Manmohan cabinet which had constitutional rights. And also, what can be more surprising than the fact that a person, without holding any constitutional post, tears down the cabinet decision and the government then takes back that decision?
The Prime Minister raised another sensitive issue to which Congress has no answer. He said – The issue of the country’s Constitution is far from clear, Congress is not even able to respect its own Constitution! Actually this matter is related to former Congress President Sitaram Kesari. What happened was that Sonia Gandhi had been elected President of Congress and Kesari was not leaving the chair.
It is said – Brother, people first locked Kesari in the bathroom and later threw her outside the office. Overall, there are many such actions of Congress for which it itself has no answer. The moral of this story is that unless we have accurate and logical answers, we should refrain from questioning others.
