If you and your partner are thinking of booking a room from OYO, then this news is for you! OYO has implemented a new rule, which is currently implemented in Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh. Now, Oyo Hotels will not give rooms to unmarried couples. This means that if you and your partner are not married to each other, it may be difficult to check-in to Oyo. OYO has taken this decision on the request of social groups and civic organizations in Meerut, who wanted that unmarried couples should not be allowed to check-in at hotels.
Although this rule is limited to Meerut only, Oyo has indicated that it can be implemented in other cities as well. So, if you live in cities like Delhi-NCR, you don’t need to worry for now, but this rule may spread in the future.
What is the new rule?
OYO has implemented a new rule in Meerut, under which unmarried couples will not get rooms. Now, if you and your partner want to book a room in Oyo Hotel, you will have to show your marriage certificate. At present this rule has been implemented only in Meerut.
What will be the impact in Delhi-NCR?
This rule has not yet been implemented in Delhi-NCR and other cities. If you live in Delhi-NCR, this change will not have any impact at present. But OYO has said that if there is feedback on this issue from other cities also, then they can implement this rule there also.
Will solo travelers have to show certificate?
No, this rule is only for couples. If you are traveling alone or booking a room for any other reason, you will not need to show the certificate. OYO has clearly said that these rules will not apply to solo travelers, students, families and people on business trips.
Why was this step taken?
OYO has taken this step under pressure from some civil organizations and social groups. Especially in Meerut, these groups had requested OYO not to allow unmarried couples to check-in. After this, Oyo implemented this new rule. Now it remains to be seen where else Oyo implements this rule, and whether it will have the same effect in other cities as well.
