Spotify, the music streaming giant we know today, began humbly in 2008. This Swedish company took around two years to reach one million active monthly users. However, fast-forward, and Spotify has become the world’s most popular audio streaming platform, enjoying over 678 million users, including 268 million subscribers in more than 180 markets. Over the years, Spotify has evolved and introduced features that have made music-listening a fun experience. You can use Spotify Blend, which lets you share music with your friends, and then there is Spotify Karaoke mode to sing your heart out.
You also get Spotify Private Session, which enables you to enjoy new music without influencing the algorithm. As AI (Artificial Intelligence) is booming, Spotify has also integrated AI features into the platform. Thanks to the Spotify AI Playlist feature, you can turn your text prompts into a playlist. This guide will show you exactly how you can do that. Let’s jump right into it.
What is the Spotify AI Playlist feature?
Today, you can ask any AI agent to do your work in a matter of a few prompts. Similarly, Spotify has added the AI Playlist feature that helps you generate a playlist of your liking by inputting a few texts. All you need to do is describe what you want in your Spotify playlist, and let AI handle everything else. While Spotify’s AI can generate a playlist with just a few words or lines of text, to get the best results, we would suggest you be specific in describing the genre, the era, and artists, if possible, since more details will help the AI to generate a playlist specific to your needs.
Notably, the Spotify AI Playlist is only available in English, meaning you must enter your prompt in English. Spotify says you can even include references to animals, activities, movie characters, colors, or emojis to generate an AI playlist. Since it is currently in beta, playlist generation may not be up to the mark.
The feature was initially limited to Spotify Premium users in the US, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. FYI, the Spotify Premium membership starts at $11.99/month in the U.S., CA$12.69/month in Canada, €11.99 monthly in Ireland, and NZ$18.99 monthly in New Zealand.
However, recently, the company expanded the Spotify AI Playlist beta feature to more than 40 markets in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean. Here is the complete list of countries where you can enjoy the Spotify AI Playlist beta feature:

How to create a playlist using the Spotify AI Playlist feature?
Before you begin, ensure that you have an active Spotify Premium subscription and reside in one of the countries where the feature is currently available. Also, you can use either an Android phone or an iOS device to try out this feature. With that out of the way, let us take a look at the steps to create a playlist using AI text prompts:
- Launch the Spotify app on your phone.
- Tap on the Your Library tab on the bottom menu.
- Tap on the Plus (+) icon at the top right of the Your Library page.
- You will see three options: Playlist, Blend, and AI Playlist. Choose AI Playlist.
- A new page titled “What do you want to hear today?” will appear. Just below “Try asking,” you will see a text box saying, “Tell me your ideas.”
- You need to enter your prompt. The prompt can be as elaborate as you want, or it can be made up of a few words.
- If you want Spotify to help you with prompts, there are a few suggestions above the text box that you can use.
- Once satisfied with your prompt, tap the upward green arrow button.
- Spotify will now generate an AI playlist based on your provided description. If happy, you can tap Create to save the playlist in your library.
- If you think Spotify can do much better, click the three-dot menu and select the Refine Playlist option.
Let AI create your playlist
Spotify has specific restrictions on how you can create an AI playlist. Spotify “won’t produce results for non-music-related prompts, like current events or specific brands.” Plus, there are measures around offensive or vulgar prompts. If you are just a casual user, you should check out our dedicated page explaining what every icon in Spotify means. Also, if the Spotify app is crashing or not working correctly, you can apply the fixes mentioned in our guide and resolve the issue.
