Soon after India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire, the Ministry of Defence held a press briefing on Saturday, 10 May, reiterating India’s commitment to the understanding reached with Pakistan.
While addressing reporters, Chief of Defence Staff General Raghu N. Nair stated: “As the Foreign Secretary has said, you are aware, there is an understanding that has been reached to stop all military activities at sea, in the air, and on land. The Indian Navy, Indian Army, and the Indian Air Force have been instructed to adhere to this understanding.”
The CDS further stressed that since the Pahalgam terror attack, India’s response had been “measured and responsible”, and all details had been consistently communicated to the media via press briefings.
Further in efforts to dismiss the false claims that are being circulated, he noted, “As a professional military organisation, we thought it was our duty to dispel misinformation and state the facts of the case as they stand.”
Photographic evidence of operational installations, including forward ammunition dumps in Chandigarh and Beas, had already been shared during the morning briefing, she added.
Wing Commander Singh also condemned Pakistan’s narrative, accusing India of targeting mosques.
“Two of their key military personnel have been lost, resulting in a breakdown of both their offensive and defensive posture, as well as morale,” she added.
Nonetheless, the CDS reiterated that while India would adhere to the ceasefire understanding, it would remain fully prepared for any contingency. “Every misadventure by Pakistan has been met with strength. Every future escalation will invite a decisive response,” he concluded.
The ceasefire agreement, which came into effect earlier today, was confirmed following an announcement by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stating,
“Pakistan’s DGMO called Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, in the air & sea with effect from 1700 hours IST. Instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. They will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours.”
