India-Pakistan War EndsIndia, Pakistan Agree to 'Full and Immediate' Ceasefire After US Intervenes

India and Pakistan agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire following overnight US-brokered talks, the Indian government said on Saturday, 10 May, after days of tensions between the two contries.

The announcement by India was made following a tweet by US President Donald Trump, who said the agreement was reached after “long nights” of mediation by the US.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump wrote. He congratulated both sides “on using common sense and great intelligence.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the diplomatic push, stating that over the past 48 hours, he and Vice President Vance had engaged with top Indian and Pakistani leadership, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif and military and national security officials. Rubio said both governments had agreed not only to halt hostilities but also to begin broader talks at a neutral venue.
