Instagram is “the” social media platform that everyone loves. This Meta-owned social media platform not only lets you share photos and videos and create Reels, but it also lets you engage in conversations with your friends and family members through DM. Facebook has been adding new features to make the DM, i.e., Direct Messaging on Instagram, a fun affair. Instagram DMs recently picked up multiple features such as message translation, sharing music without leaving DM, scheduling messages, QR codes for group chats, and pinning content in chats.
Now, Instagram has added some more new DM features, including voice message transcription, longer voice messages, and the option to follow all in a group. Let us take a look at all the new features announced for Instagram in detail.
Voice Message Transcriptions
One of the important features of the new update is the Instagram Voice Message Transcription. Sending and receiving voice messages is quite a common task on Instagram DMs. It lets you send your message to the recipient without having to place a call. Now, you will be able to transcribe any voice message that you receive in your DM.
All you need to do is tap the “View transcription” button underneath the voice message. It will show you the transcription, and you can read the text of the audio message to understand what it is about. This could come in handy in situations when you want to engage with voice content but cannot hear the voice message out loud. Instagram says that the Voice Message Transcription feature is to “make it easier to connect with friends even when you can’t listen to their message out loud.”
Longer Voice Messages
Instagram has also extended the length of voice messages one can send in direct messages. Before the update, Instagram users could send up to one minute of voice message. But now, users will be able to send up to five minutes of voice messages.
While placing a call could be more convenient in place of sending such a long voice message, it could come in handy if you have a long list of details to share with someone who is too busy to take a phone call.
Follow All in Group Chat
If you are in a group chat where you know everyone in it, then previously you had to send friend requests separately to each of the members. However, with the latest update, Instagram DM also gains a new “Follow All” feature that lets you follow everyone in the group chat.
Although you may be familiar with or connected with members from a group chat (because group chats are about people sharing content and discussing things with people they know), this streamlines the process if a bunch of new members have been added.
New Features Rolling out to everyone
These features were previously under testing with a limited set of users. But now, Instagram has pushed all these features globally. If you haven’t received these features yet, then we would suggest you head over to the Google Play Store and download the latest version of the Instagram app. If that doesn’t do anything, then you probably have to wait a while before the feature goes live in your region.
Instagram has quite a bunch of features that you may not have tried yet. Recently, the social media platform introduced a video editing app called Instagram Edits, which is available for free.
