Google tightens work from anywhere rule for employees, one remote day will count as full week

After the Covid pandemic, the culture of work from home is increasing rapidly. People are preferring to work at home instead of going to office and now companies are also seen adapting to this culture. But the world’s largest tech company Google has issued an order on work from home, which is no less than a shock for the employees.

Preparation to change the policy of ‘Work from Anywhere’

Google has made the return-to-office policy even more strict for its employees. According to reports, Google is preparing to implement new rules for its work from home employees. The company is changing its “Work from Anywhere” policy. It was started during Covid-19. Under this policy, employees were allowed to work from any place outside their main office for four weeks every year, but now this facility is being tightened further.

Google is making these preparations

According to CNBC report, Google has changed its “Work from Anywhere” (WFA) policy. Now if an employee works out of the office even for just one day a week, the entire week will be counted as remote work. However, the company will continue its existing hybrid work policy, under which employees can work from home (WFH) two days a week. It has also been clarified that the WFA policy is different from WFH, as employees can choose to work from any location other than their home.

This rule is coming!

Earlier Google had said that “If an employee works from anywhere (WFA) for one day or all five days in a week, that week will be considered a full WFA week and one will be subtracted from the total available WFA weeks.” The company also said that WFA weeks cannot be used to work from or near home. Earlier this year, Google had given buyout option to some permanent employees in America. Also, the company warned remote employees of some teams that if they do not return to the hybrid work system, their jobs may be affected.

Under the new policy, employees will no longer be allowed to use their “Work from Anywhere” (WFA) days to work from a Google office located in another state or country. The company has cited “legal and cross border financial complications” behind this. As per the guidelines, employees working from different locations will also have to follow the office working hours as per their local time zone.
