Bengaluru Man Receives Rs 22 Lakh Repair Estimate For A Car Worth Rs 11 Lakh

Internet users criticised the service centre for exploiting customers.

In a bizarre incident, a car owner in Bengaluru recently revealed that a service centre handed out an estimate of Rs 22 lakh to repair a Volkswagen Polo hatchback that cost him Rs 11 lakh. 

Taking to LinkedIn, Anirudh Ganesh, product manager at Amazon, shared his ordeal. He said that his car got damaged in the recent flooding in Bengaluru. It got fully submerged in flood waters, following which he sent his vehicle to Volkswagen Apple Auto in Whitefield. 

“I had to push my car onto a towing truck in waist-deep water at 11 pm. No one to help but we middle-class people are tough. Karlete hai kisi tarah,” Mr Ganesh wrote on LinkedIn.

However, he said that his nightmare was far from over as after approximately 20 days, the service centre sent him a repair estimate of Rs 22 lakh. Mr Ganesh then got in touch with his insurance provider, Acko, who informed him that the car would be written off as a total loss and that they would pick it up from the repair shop. 

But much to his astonishment, the service centre asked him to pay Rs 44,840 to collect his vehicle from them. The Volkswagen repair shop told Mr Ganesh that this fee was required to issue documents about the damage the car has suffered. 

Thankfully though, Volkswagen resolved the issue after another email sent by Mr Ganesh. The company decided to settle the repair costs at Rs 5,000. 

“Volkswagen India team (Mr.Sumanth and Ms.Poonam) have spoken and said that prices in such scenario will be set to the upper limit of Rs.5000 for estimation/storage for car owners in total loss cases. I hope this information helps everyone,” Mr Ganesh added. He also said that he finally got his car back on September 26.

“The dealership ensured the same price to all other customers as well and as per my understanding, VW is charging the same across Bangalore now,” Me Ganesh wrote on LinkedIn. 

Meanwhile, reacting to his post, several internet users criticised the service centre for exploiting customers. “How can you charge an estimation fee? I mean how can I decide if I want to go ahead or not without estimate? And isn’t it something you are doing for your business???” wrote one user. “This is scary. Crony capitalism has no respect towards consumer protection?” added another. 

Several users also shared their experiences with dealers. “Having gone through similar kind of experiences with the VW showroom in my city, I can feel your pain,” wrote one user.

A POCSO court in Bundi on Saturday sentenced a 22-year-old youth to 20 years’ imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Deikheda Police Station area last July, an official said. The convict, Rakesh Meena, was also fined Rs 50,000 by Judge Salim Badar, public Prosecutor, POCSO Court- 1, Rakesh Thakur said.

Meena was booked for raping a minor girl on July 16, 2021, he said. According to the complaint then filed by the girl’s family, he had barged into the girl’s house the previous night and had coaxed the her to go with him to a secluded place in the village, where he raped her. Meena was booked under sections of IPC and POCSO and was arrested on July 18, 2021. He had been in judicial custody since then, Thakur said.

ગુજરાતના દરિયાકાંઠેથી છાશવારે કરોડોની કિંમતનું ડ્રગ્સ ઝડપાઇ રહ્યું છે. ત્યારે હવે ડ્રગ્સની સિન્ડિકેટને તોડવા ગુજરાત પોલીસે કમર કસી છે. ગુજરાત પોલીસે દરિયાઇ સુરક્ષાને લઇને મોટી કાર્યવાહી હાથ ધરી છે. જે અંતર્ગત ગુજરાતના દરિયાઇ પટ્ટી પરના વિવાદિત સ્થળો અને ગેરકાયદેસર દબાણો દૂર કરવાની શરૂઆત કરવામાં આવી છે. દેવભૂમિ દ્વારકા (Dwarka) ના બેટ દ્વારકામાં ડ્રગ્સ (Drugs)કનેક્શનની આશંકાને લઇને તંત્ર દ્વારા મેગા ડિમોલિશન (Demolition) ની કાર્યવાહી હાથ ધરવામાં આવી. યાત્રાધામ બેટ દ્વારકામાં તંત્ર દ્વારા ગેરકાયદેસર દબાણો પર બુલડોઝર ફેરવી દેવામાં આવ્યું. બેટ દ્વારકામાં 30થી વધુ દબાણો દૂર કરવામાં આવ્યા. પોલીસના ઉચ્ચ અધિકારીઓ સહિતના કાફલા તેમજ સઘન સુરક્ષા વચ્ચે ડિમોલિશન કરવામાં આવ્યું.

સિગ્નેચર બ્રિજ આસપાસના ગેરકાયદે દબાણો હટાવાયા

ઓખા – બેટ દ્વારકા વચ્ચે બની રહેલા સિગ્નેચર બ્રિજની આસપાસના સ્થળો પર થયેલા દબાણો પર બુલડોઝર ફેરવવામાં આવ્યું. બેટ દ્વારકામાં કરોડો રૂપિયાની કિંમતી જમીન પર ગેરકાયદે દબાણ કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું. આથી તંત્ર દ્વારા મેગા ઓપરેશન હાથ ધરી આ દબાણો દૂર કરવામાં આવ્યા. આ દરમ્યાન ટિયર ગેસ, બુલેટપ્રૂફ જેકેટ તેમજ હથિયારોથી સજ્જ જવાનો તેમજ પોલીસ કર્મચારીઓનો કાફલો તૈનાત રહ્યો.

ડિમોલિશનને લઇને સમગ્ર બેટ દ્વારકાને કોર્ડન કરી ચાંપતો બંદોબસ્ત ગોઠવવામાં આવ્યો. બેટ દ્વારકા જતી ફેરી બોટ સર્વિસ પણ બંધ કરવામાં આવી. દેવભૂમિ દ્વારકામાં સૌરાષ્ટ્ર રેન્જના ડીઆઇજી સંદીપ સિંઘ, જિલ્લા પોલીસ વડા નિતેષ પાંડે સહિત પીઆઇ, પીએસઆઇ, ડીવાયએસપી, પોલીસ જવાનો તેમજ SRPની બે કંપનીઓ સહિત અન્ય પોલીસ કર્મચારીઓ ઓપરેશનમાં જોડાયા. આગામી દિવસોમાં દેવભૂમિ દ્વારકાની જેમ જ ગીર સોમનાથ, કચ્છ તેમજ પોરબંદરની દરિયાઇ પટ્ટી પરના દબાણો દૂર કરવામાં આવશે તેમ પોલીસ અધિકારીઓએ જણાવ્યું છે.

Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers Sujoy Lal Thaosen and Anish Dayal Singh have been appointed as the new directors general of the CRPF and ITBP respectively, a government order said Saturday.

Thaosen, a 1988-batch officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, is currently working as the director general (DG) of the border guarding force Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and holding the additional charge of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) DG post fell vacant on Friday after IPS officer Kuldiep Singh (1986-batch West Bengal cadre) retired from service. Thaosen has been holding the additional charge of ITBP DG after his batchmate and incumbent Sanjay Arora was appointed Delhi Police Commissioner in August.

Anish Dayal Singh, also a 1988-batch officer (Manipur cadre), is currently serving as a special director in the Intelligence Bureau. He has worked on many desks and handled various investigations during his tenure in the central intelligence agency. Thaosen is scheduled to retire in November next year, while Singh will superannuate in December, 2024. The order for their appointment was issued by the Personnel Ministry after sanction from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the prime minister.

The CRPF is the country’s largest paramilitary with an estimated strength of about 3.25 lakh personnel. It is designated as the lead internal security force with its main operational theatres being Left Wing Extremism-affected states, counter-terrorist combat in the Kashmir valley, and counter-insurgency operations in the north east. The ITBP is primarily tasked to guard the 3,488 km stretch of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China apart from rendering a variety of duties in the internal security domain of the country. The SSB is the border force that guards fenceless Indian borders with Nepal and Bhutan.

Thaosen is expected to hold the additional charge of SSB till a new order is issued by the government for its new head, an official said.

Russia failed to win enough votes for re-election to the United Nation’s aviation agency’s governing council on Saturday, in a boost for Western powers that wanted to hold Moscow accountable following its invasion of Ukraine.

Russia fell short of the votes needed to stay on the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) 36-nation governing council, during the agency’s assembly which runs through Oct. 7 in Montreal.

The voting results set off a procedural review on Saturday, after a challenge by Russia for an additional vote. Poppy Khoza, assembly president and South Africa’s director general of civil aviation, called the circumstances “unprecedented.”

“When we have votes in our countries, if we don’t like the result, we don’t ask for another vote,” the French representative told the assembly.

Russia, along with the G7, China, Brazil and Australia, held spots as “states of chief importance in air transport” on ICAO’s 36-member council.

“We’d like to express regret regarding the outcome of the voting,” the Russian representative said. “We view this as a purely political step and has nothing to do with Russia’s position in the field of civil aviation.”

Russia closed its airspace to airlines from 36 countries, including all 27 members of the European Union, in response to Ukraine-related sanctions targeting its aviation sector following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

The West says Russia has illegally confiscated hundreds of foreign jets, a charge Moscow denies.

Canada and Europe said before the vote they would oppose Russia’s re-election to the council.

Omar Alghabra, Canada’s transport minister, told Reuters this week “it’s important that Russia is held accountable.”

The 193-nation ICAO assembly, held every three years, is the first since the COVID-19 pandemic and Ukraine war

દિલ્હીના કૃષ્ણનગરમાં એક રૂમમાં AC બ્લાસ્ટ બાદ આગ ફાટી નીકળી હતી, જેમાં એક વૃદ્ધ દંપતીનું મોત થયું હતું. જણાવવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે કે આ દંપત્તિ ત્રણ દિવસ પહેલા પંજાબથી પોતાના પુત્ર અને વહુ પાસે દિલ્હી આવ્યા હતા. ઘટના સમયે પુત્ર અને પુત્રવધૂ બંને ઘરે ન હતા. પોલીસ આ મામલે તપાસ કરી રહી છે.

આગ લાગવાથી દંપત્તિ મોત

રાજધાની દિલ્હીના કૃષ્ણનગર વિસ્તારમાં એક ઘરની અંદર આગ લાગવાથી એક વૃદ્ધ દંપતીનું મોત નીપજ્યું હતું. આ વૃદ્ધ દંપતી થોડા દિવસો પહેલા તેમના પરિવારને મળવા દિલ્હી આવ્યું હતું. એસીમાં બ્લાસ્ટ થવાને કારણે રૂમમાં આગ લાગી હોવાની આશંકા છે. ઘટના સમયે દંપતીની પુત્રવધૂ બજારમાં ગઈ હતી અને પુત્ર દુકાન પર હતો. પોલીસ આ મામલે તપાસ કરી રહી છે.

વૃદ્ધ દંપતીનું શ્વાસ રૂંધાવાથી મોત થયું

મળતી માહિતી મુજબ પંજાબના જલંધરના રહેવાસી 80 વર્ષીય રાજકુમાર જૈન અને તેમની પત્ની 75 વર્ષીય કમલેશ જૈન ત્રણ દિવસ પહેલા તેમના પુત્ર અને પુત્રવધૂ સાથે દિલ્હી આવ્યા હતા. કહેવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે કે બંને વૃદ્ધ દંપતી એક રૂમમાં સૂતા હતા, ત્યારે અચાનક એસીમાં આગ લાગી ગઈ. આ ઘટના બાદ વૃદ્ધ દંપતીનું શ્વાસ રૂંધાવાથી મોત થયું હતું.

4 ફાયર બ્રિગેડ, 2 એમ્બ્યુલન્સ ઘટનાસ્થળે પહોંચી

પોલીસને PCR પર કૃષ્ણાનગરમાં આગ લાગવાની માહિતી મળી હતી. ત્યારબાદ પોલીસ 4 ફાયર બ્રિગેડ અને 2 એમ્બ્યુલન્સ સાથે ઘટનાસ્થળે પહોંચી ગઈ હતી. જ્યારે પોલીસ ઘટનાસ્થળે પહોંચી તો જોયું કે જ્યાં આગ લાગી હતી ત્યાં ગેટ અંદરથી બંધ હતો અને ધુમાડો નીકળી રહ્યો હતો. ત્યાર બાદ તુરંત દરવાજો તોડવામાં આવ્યો.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav cleaned a statue of Mahatma Gandhi with his handkerchief  near the British Parliament at Westminster in London last month, said a legislator from his party RJD while sharing a video on Twitter.

“When Tejashwi Yadav ji went to pay homage at the historic bronze statue of the Father of the Nation… he found the statue dirty. Seeing this, he could not stop himself and started cleaning it with his handkerchief,” said Rishi Kumar, MLA from Obra segment in Aurangabad district.

While many in the replies praised the act, there were others who called it a “publicity stunt”, saying that there was not much dirt on the statue anyway. “Get your priorities right. See how dirty Patna is,” commented a Twitter user in response to the MLA’s post.

The nine-foot statue is based on a 1931 photograph of Mahatma Gandhi during his visit to the office of the then UK PM Ramsay MacDonald.

The statue had been vandalised two years ago — “racist” was painted on it — during the ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests over some of Gandhi’s views, mainly during his stay in South Africa. It was unveiled in 2015 by India’s then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley — marking the centenary of Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa and the start of his struggle for Indian independence.

One of several leaders’ statues put up in the area, this one was announced in 2014 by the then Chancellor of the UK Exchequer, George Osborne, on a visit to India as “a fitting tribute to his memory… and a permanent monument to our friendship”.

Sculptor Philip Jackson made it after public donations were gathered by a trust set up by prominent Indians in the UK.

એસ જયશંકર નવરાત્રી ઉત્સવમાં હાજરી આપવા વડોદરા પહોંચ્યા હતા

તમને જણાવી દઈએ કે, વિદેશ મંત્રી એસ. જયશંકર નવરાત્રી ઉત્સવમાં હાજરી આપવા માટે ઓછામાં ઓછા 50 રાજદૂતો અને ઉચ્ચ કમિશનરો સાથે શનિવારે ગુજરાતના વડોદરા પહોંચ્યા હતા. આ દરમિયાન તેણે આ વાત કહી. ગુજરાતના રાજ્યસભાના સભ્ય જયશંકરે અહીં પહોંચ્યા બાદ ટ્વિટ કર્યું હતું કે, “નવરાત્રિનો અનુભવ કરવા માટે વડોદરા આવતા રાજદૂતો અને હાઈ કમિશનરોને જોઈને આનંદ થયો. (હું) આજે રાત્રે આ કાર્યક્રમમાં ભાગ લેવા માટે ખૂબ જ ઉત્સાહિત છું.

પાકિસ્તાને પોતાને આતંકવાદનો શિકાર ગણાવ્યો હતો

વિદેશ મંત્રી એસ જયશંકરનું આતંકવાદ પર મોટું નિવેદન એવા સમયે આવ્યું છે જ્યારે પાકિસ્તાનના વડાપ્રધાન શાહબાઝ શરીફે ગયા મહિને ઉઝબેકિસ્તાનમાં શાંઘાઈ કોઓપરેશન ઓર્ગેનાઈઝેશન સમિટમાં વૈશ્વિક નેતાઓની હાજરીમાં કહ્યું હતું કે તેમનો દેશ “આતંકનું પીડિત રાજ્ય” છે.

તેમણે કહ્યું હતું કે, ‘પાકિસ્તાન આતંકવાદનો શિકાર રહ્યું છે. મારે તેના ઇતિહાસમાં જવાની જરૂર નથી. પરંતુ એટલું કહેવું પૂરતું છે કે અમે આતંકવાદના રાક્ષસને હરાવવા માટે મહાન બલિદાન આપ્યા છે. હજારો પાકિસ્તાનીઓ શહીદ થયા.

PM, Yogi Adityanath Offer Condolences As 22 Die In UP Road Accident

Kanpur:

At least 22 were were killed and several others injured after a tractor trolley overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered their condolences to the families of those who were killed in the accident. 

PM Modi also announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who were killed. 

“Distressed by the tractor-trolley mishap in Kanpur. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their near and dear ones. Prayers with the injured. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected,” PM Modi said in a tweet.

“An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be paid to the next of kin of each of the deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000,” he added.

The incident occurred in the evening near Bhadeuna village located within the Saar police station limits. The tractor-trolley, carrying about 50 people, was on its way to Ghatampur after the passengers attended a “mundan” ceremony at the Chandrika Devi temple in Fatehpur, officials said.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the senior officers have been instructed to reach the spot immediately.

“The road accident in Kanpur district is very heart-wrenching. The District Magistrate and other senior officers have been directed to reach the spot immediately and conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing and make arrangements for proper treatment of the injured. Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured,” Yogi tweeted.

“The loss of life in this accident is very sad. My condolences are with the bereaved family. Praying to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed souls a place at his feet and the families of the dead to bear this unfathomable loss,” he added in his tweet.

22 Pilgrims, All Women And Children, Dead As Tractor Falls In Kanpur Pond

At least 22 pilgrims, all women and children, were killed and more than two dozen severely injured Saturday when a tractor trolley overturned and fell into a pond in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, said police.

The tractor, with 50 people on board, was returning from Chandrika Devi temple in Unnao when the tragedy struck near Ghatampur area in Kanpur.

The injured have been moved to a local hospital and the police and locals are involved in rescue operations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed anguish over the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families who have lost a member in the accident. The injured will be given a financial assistance of Rs 50,000.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth too mourned the loss of lives and has sent senior ministers Rakesh Sachan and Ajit Pal to the accident site to oversee the relief-and-rescue measures.

The chief minister is personally monitoring the rescue operation, a government spokesperson said in Lucknow.
