ઉત્તર પ્રદેશ(Uttarpardesh)ના ભદોહી જિલ્લામાં રવિવારે રાત્રે એક મોટો અકસ્માત થયો હતો. આરતી દરમિયાન દુર્ગા પૂજા(Durga Pooja)ના પંડાલમાં ભીષણ આગ ફાટી નીકળી હતી. ઘટના ઔરાઈ કોતવાલી વિસ્તારની છે. જણાવવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે કે આગને કારણે ત્રણ લોકોના મોત થયા છે અને ઘણા લોકો દાઝી ગયા છે. ઘટનાની જાણ થતા ફાયર બ્રિગેડ(Fire Brigade)ની ટીમ ઘટના સ્થળે પહોંચી આગને કાબૂમાં લેવાનું શરૂ કર્યું હતું. જો કે આગ પર કાબૂ મેળવી લેવામાં આવ્યો હોવાનું જણાવવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે. પોલીસ પ્રશાસને જણાવ્યું છે કે આ ઘટનામાં ઘાયલ થયેલા લોકોના પરિવારજનોને અકસ્માતની જાણકારી આપવામાં આવી છે. કેટલાક ઘાયલોના સંબંધીઓ હોસ્પિટલ પહોંચ્યા છે. એક અધિકારીએ જણાવ્યું હતું કે સ્થાનિક હોસ્પિટલમાં ઘાયલોની યોગ્ય સંભાળને લઈને સૂચનાઓ જારી કરવામાં આવી છે.

અકસ્માત સાથે જોડાયેલી 10 મોટી બાબતો

1. આ અકસ્માતમાં મૃત્યુ પામેલાઓમાં 12 વર્ષના અને 10 વર્ષના બે બાળકો અને 45 વર્ષની એક મહિલાનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. અકસ્માતની જાણ પરિવારજનોને થતાં જ તેમના ઘરોમાં અરેરાટી મચી ગઈ હતી.
2. જિલ્લા ડીએમ ગૌરાંગ રાઠીએ જણાવ્યું કે આ અકસ્માતમાં 64 લોકો દાઝી ગયા છે. તેમાંથી 42 લોકો વારાણસીમાં, ચાર પ્રયાગરાજમાં અને અન્ય ભદોહીમાં સારવાર હેઠળ છે.
3. આ અકસ્માતની તપાસ માટે SITની રચના કરવામાં આવી છે. ADMની આગેવાની હેઠળની ટીમ તપાસમાં લાગેલી છે. આગ કયા કારણોસર લાગી અને તેના માટે કોણ જવાબદાર છે તે અંગે પોલીસ તપાસ કરી રહી છે.
4. રવિવારે રાત્રે પંડાલમાં મા દુર્ગાની આરતી થવાની હતી. માતાની આરતીમાં હાજરી આપવા માટે દોઢસો જેટલા લોકો પંડાલમાં પહોંચ્યા હતા. દરમિયાન પંડાલમાં આગ ફાટી નીકળી હતી. થોડી જ વારમાં આગ આખા પંડાલમાં ફેલાઈ ગઈ.
5. આગ જોઈને પંડાલમાં અફરાતફરી મચી ગઈ હતી. લોકો અહીં-તહીં દોડવા લાગ્યા. જો કે, ભીડ વધુ હોવાથી કેટલાક લોકો અંદર ફસાયા હોવાનું કહેવાય છે. તે બહાર ન આવી શક્યો અને દાઝી ગયો.
6. ઘટનાની જાણ થતાં જ ડીએમ-એસપી ઘટનાસ્થળે પહોંચી ગયા હતા. આ દરમિયાન એસપીની સૂચના પર પોલીસની ટીમ પણ તાત્કાલિક ઘટનાસ્થળે પહોંચી ગઈ હતી.
7. જ્યાં ફાયર બ્રિગેડની ટીમે આગ પર કાબુ મેળવ્યો હતો. જ્યારે પોલીસકર્મીઓ બચાવ કાર્યમાં લાગેલા હતા. લોકોને હોસ્પિટલ લઈ જવામાં આવી રહ્યા હતા. ઘાયલોની સારવારમાં ડોકટરો રાતથી વ્યસ્ત છે. તે લોકોને વારાણસી રિફર કરવામાં આવ્યા છે, જેમની હાલત ખૂબ જ ગંભીર હતી.
8. ઘટના અંગે ડીએમ ગૌરાંગ રાઠીએ કહ્યું કે અકસ્માતના કારણ વિશે કંઈ સ્પષ્ટ નથી. સ્થાનિક લોકો સાથે વાત કરવામાં આવી છે. કેટલાક લોકો કહી રહ્યા છે કે આગ આરતીથી લાગી છે તો કેટલાક લોકોનું કહેવું છે કે પંડાલમાં શોર્ટ સર્કિટના કારણે આગ લાગી છે.
9. અકસ્માત સમયે માતાના દર્શન માટે પંડાલમાં મોટી સંખ્યામાં મહિલાઓ અને બાળકો હાજર હતા. તેઓ ઘાયલોની સંખ્યા સૌથી વધુ છે. જેમની હાલત ગંભીર હતી તેઓને વારાણસી વચ્ચેના એયુ ટ્રોમા સેન્ટરમાં રીફર કરવામાં આવ્યા છે.
10. આ સંદર્ભે, પોલીસ પ્રશાસન પણ આ દુર્ગા પૂજા પંડાલના આયોજકો સાથે વાત કરી રહ્યું છે અને ઘટનાની માહિતી એકઠી કરી રહ્યું છે.

Alert rail passengers, Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to cancel a total of 177 trains today on October 3, due to multiple reasons including maintenance and operational concerns. 146 trains were fully cancelled, while 31 trains were partially cancelled. This news comes a day after IRCTC cancelled over 150 trains on October 2. Additionally, it has decided to divert 12 trains and reschedule 6 trains due to various reasons varying from operational work on tracks to natural disasters. Furthermore, chances are multiple trains can be cancelled on October 4 as well, based on the information on the NTES website. 

The cancellation and other changes in the trains’ schedule will have an effect on a number of states, including New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Rajasthan.

Batters Make Hay But India's Death-overs Bowling Remains a Concern

458 runs were scored across 40 overs in Guwahati. Only six wickets well. There was a centurion, three half-centurions and then Virat Kohli who was within  touching distance of one of his own. A high-scoring affair. The margin might give an impression it was a close contest. It wasn’t. But again, it wasn’t one-sided either.

For South Africa, despite the defeat, the contest brought a couple of positive developments. David Miller dazzled with a century and Quinton de Kock huffed and puffed his way back into form with a fifty. For India, despite the win, it was another wake up call – a call that seems quite late now. They posted well in excess of 200 and still at one stage there appeared a faint but real possibility of them failing to defend the total and again their lack of teeth in death-overs was exposed.

The Top-order Show

The contest showed what India are capable of unleashing the bat when their top-order fires in unison. KL Rahul struck a quickfire fifty, Suryakumar Yadav dazzled with a blistering half-century, Kohli was classy as ever, hitting an unbeaten 49 while Rohit Sharma played a solid knock. And then there was the finisher – Dinesh Karthik who did exactly what was expected of him. The top-order ticked all the boxes. A solid start, ascendancy in the middle overs and then all guns blazing in the death. Perfect.

The Twin Interruptions

Wondering why the contest dragged on for over four hours then? Well two major and one minor. Let’s talk about the majors first. So after the end of the 7th over of the Indian innings, few South African players pointed out the presence of an uninvited guest on the field – a snake. Yup. And promptly the match was halted. The ground staff rushed to the field to capture and get this ‘guest’ out of sight. After a few minutes, the field was cleared of the reptile and the game resumed.

The second interruption came after the 2nd over of South African innings. The culprit this time was technical in nature. One of the floodlights at the stadium malfunctioned and went off. It took nearly 15 minutes for it to be restored to its full glory. India fielders used the time to take an unscheduled break as Rohit chatted with coach Rahul Dravid in the dug-out.

And then there was the case of India being a couple of overs short as well – the third reason.

Karthik Gets Time But Only so Much

India captain Rohit has spoken about giving time to Karthik and Rishabh Pant – with the bat of course. While Rishabh didn’t get to bat on Sunday, DK did face 7 deliveries and made full use of them, hitting two sixes and a four. But are 7 deliveries enough? Well, it’s nobody’s fault that he got to bat so late considering how well the others before him batted but now, there’s just one international match before the T20 WC  in which India have a chance to give Pant and Karthik a fair run. Miller Weaves His Magic

If it wasn’t for Miller, South Africa might not have come so close to the target. The left-hander has been in superb form this year stretching back to IPL 2022 where he took Gujarat Titans over the line on several occasions with his power hitting. The crowd gathered at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium witnessed his brute force as he peppered the boundary with plenty of fours and sixes. Miller brought up a second T20I hundred. The manner in which he hugged his teammate Quinton de Kock in the final over after reaching the milestone was enough proof of how much relieved he’s with the revival of his international career and what the knock means to him.

Oi, Where’s The Death-overs Specialist?

Now we head to the big question: With Jasprit Bumrah not a certainty for the world cup owing to an apparent stress fracture that has seen him return to the National Cricket Academy, who will shoulder the responsibility in death overs for India? The team has a major gap to fill. They keep on putting 200-plus totals but don’t seem to have the bowlers to defend them. Well, on Sunday they did but remember the Mohali T20I when Australia overhauled the target of 209 with relative ease?

A big cause for concern is their death-overs bowling. On Sunday, they conceded 78 runs in the final five overs. Harshal Patel continued to leak runs. Deepak Chahar primarily is a new-ball bowler but he’s part of the traveling reserves. However, on Sunday he did bowl one over in the death and allowed just eight runs. Could he be the answer? Bhvuneshwar Kumar has been given responsibility in recent past but to no avail. Arshdeep Singh bowled the 19th over during the 2nd T20I vs South Africa but was clobbered for 26 runs. સમાજવાદી પાર્ટી(Samajwadi Party) વડા મુલાયમ સિંહ યાદવની તબિયત રવિવારે વધુ લથડી હતી. તેને તાત્કાલિક ગુરુગ્રામની મેદાંતા હોસ્પિટલના આઈસીયુમાં ખસેડવામાં આવ્યો હતો. માહિતી મળતા જ તેમના પુત્ર અખિલેશ યાદવ(Akhilesh yadav) અને પુત્રવધૂ ડિમ્પલ યાદવ પણ મેદાંતા પહોંચી ગયા હતા. મેદાન્તામાં શિવપાલ, પ્રતિક અને અપર્ણા પણ હાજર છે. વડા પ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદી (Pm Narnedra Modi)અને સંરક્ષણ પ્રધાન રાજનાથ સિંહે પણ મુલાયમ સિંહ યાદવને ઝડપથી સ્વસ્થ થવાની શુભેચ્છા પાઠવી હતી. બંને નેતાઓએ અખિલેશ યાદવને ફોન કરીને મુલાયમ સિંહની હાલત જાણવા મળી હતી. વડાપ્રધાને અખિલેશને કહ્યુ હતું કે કોઈ પણ કામ હોય તો તો ઉપસ્થિત છે.

મુલાયમ સિંહ યાદવની તબિયતને લઈને સમાજવાદી પાર્ટી દ્વારા નિવેદન જારી કરવામાં આવ્યું છે. એવું કહેવામાં આવ્યું હતું કે નેતાજી ગુરુગ્રામની મેદાંતા હોસ્પિટલના આઈસીયુમાં દાખલ છે, તેમની સ્થિતિ સ્થિર છે. તેમની સારવાર વરિષ્ઠ ડોક્ટરોની દેખરેખ હેઠળ કરવામાં આવી રહી છે.  મેદાંતા હોસ્પિટલના પીઆરઓએ પણ એક નિવેદન જારી કરીને મુલાયમ સિંહના સ્વાસ્થ્ય વિશે માહિતી આપી હતી. તેમણે કહ્યું કે મુલાયમ સિંહને યુરિન ઈન્ફેક્શનની સાથે બ્લડ પ્રેશરની સમસ્યામાં નોંધપાત્ર વધારો થયા બાદ દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા.

રવિવારે સવારે શ્વાસ લેવામાં તકલીફ થતાં તેમને ICUમાં ખસેડવામાં આવ્યા હતા. પરિસ્થિતિમાં કોઈ સુધારો ન થતાં આખરે ડોક્ટરોએ તેને વેન્ટિલેટર સપોર્ટ પર મૂકી દીધો. મેદાંતા હોસ્પિટલ કોઈ હેલ્થ બુલેટિન જારી કરી રહી નથી. અખિલેશ યાદવને તમામ માહિતી આપવામાં આવી છે.

મુલાયમ લાંબા સમયથી બીમાર છે

તમને જણાવી દઈએ કે, સપાના સંરક્ષક મુલાયમ સિંહ યાદવની હાલત અત્યંત ગંભીર છે. તેઓ ઘણા સમયથી બીમાર હતા. આજે તેમની તબિયત બગડતાં તેમને ગુરુગ્રામની મેદાંતા હોસ્પિટલમાં દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા. મુલાયમ સિંહ યાદવ લાંબા સમયથી સ્વાસ્થ્ય સંબંધિત સમસ્યાઓથી પીડાઈ રહ્યા છે. હાલમાં જ તેને લખનૌની મેદાંતા હોસ્પિટલમાં દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો. મુલાયમ સિંહ યાદવને પેટમાં દુખાવો અને યુરિનરી ઈન્ફેક્શનની ફરિયાદ હતી. તબિયતમાં સુધારો થતાં તેમને હોસ્પિટલમાંથી રજા આપવામાં આવી હતી પરંતુ ફરીથી એ જ સમસ્યા થતા તેમને હોસ્પિટલમાં દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા.

મુલાયમ, જેમને મેદાન્તામાં ઘણી વખત દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યા છે

જણાવી દઈએ કે મુલાયમ સિંહ યાદવની તબિયત આ પહેલા પણ ઘણી વખત બગડી હતી. ગયા વર્ષે પણ 1 જુલાઈના રોજ તેમને મેદાંતા હોસ્પિટલમાં દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા. અસ્વસ્થતા અનુભવતા તેમને હોસ્પિટલમાં દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા. અહીં જ તેમની તબિયત અચાનક બગડી હતી. ડોક્ટરોની સલાહ બાદ તેને તાત્કાલિક આઈસીયુમાં દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો. હાલમાં જ તેમને યુરિનરી ટ્રેક્ટ ઈન્ફેક્શનના કારણે લખનૌની મેદાંતા હોસ્પિટલમાં દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા.

Government may include services in wholesale price index

NEW DELHI: The government is looking to capture the services sector’s price movement in the wholesale price index as it finalises the new series to include price behaviour in around 60% of the economy for the first time.
Currently, retail inflation (consumer price index) includes service sectors as well with data on education, health, tailoring & laundry, transport, communication, recreational services, and also captures the use of services such as cleaners, domestic help and house rent.
After a suggestion by the department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT), the working group on the revision of WPI, which is headed by Niti Aayog member Ramesh Chand, is currently deliberating the matter in detail.

When contacted, Chand said, “I am in favour of inclusion of services in the WPI. ”
Some members of the working group, however, said that developing a services price inflation index may take time as it is tough to get reliable data for several sectors. “While it is easier to get data for financial services and communications, it willtake time to construct an index for several other services which are not so organised. But we are working towards that since the idea is to ultimately move towards a producer price index,” one of the members said.
Besides, economists are seeking to see how the impact of technological change will play out, especially in sectors related to technology as has been the case with segments such as fintech and even communications.
The government is seeking to revise the base year from 2011-12 for wholesale and retail inflation as well as GDP and other major economic indices. While the plan was to move to 2017-18 as the base year, there are several economists who argue for a more recent base year.
At the same time there is recognition that not moving to 2017-18 as the base year would delay the revision since there was an economic slowdown in 2019-20 and then the next two years were washed out due to the Covid pandemic. In that case, the base year will need to be changed to 2022-23, but that will mean waiting for a few more years. Already, there has been a significant change in consumption patterns over the last decade.

Incumbent president Jair Bolsonaro– often called the ‘Trump of the Tropics’- received almost 44 per cent of votes outperforming expectations while former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva garnered a little over 47 per cent votes. As both the candidates could not reach the 50% vote-mark in the first round, Bolsonaro and Lula are set to face each other in a runoff election on October 30.

Far-right leader Jair Bolsonaro whose term in office has been marked by incendiary speeches, decline of democratic institutions of the country and an economic slowdown owing to the Covid pandemic was unable to gain an overall majority of votes despite his high-octane campaign- a reflection of his diminishing popularity in the country.

A former union leader Lula da Silva- once imprisoned amid a corruption scandal- was seen to be in the lead in the pre-election polls but could not reach the majority mark displaying the division in the country. Lula da Silva had been the president of Brazil from 2003 to 2010.

The elections come at a time when Brazil has been severely impacted by the Covid pandemic making economic management one of the major issues in the polls. The country is also in the midst of increasing inflation owing to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ahead of the polling, Jair Bolsonaro questioned not only the reliability of opinion polls, but also of the country’s voting machines, in what is being seen as a very former US president Donald Trump-like behaviour.

After voting on Sunday, Jair Bolsonaro emphasized that “clean elections must be respected” but did not answer any questions related to accepting the results of the elections, Associated Press reported.

Tractor crashes killed 10 a day in 2021 | India News

NEW DELHI: Last year 3,899 people travelling in tractors and attached trolleys died in road crashes, which translates to a loss of 10 lives per day, despite the fact that agricultural tractors are not meant for carrying people. The trend has been more or less similar in the past few years, though the trolleys are designed only for carrying agri produce and other goods.
But the recent two incidents involving tractors in Uttar Pradesh, which claimed 36 lives, have put the limelight back on the concern over the blatant violation of the traffic law and has also highlighted the need to bring in better standards fortractor trolleys.
Currently, trolleys attached to the tractors are largely manufactured by the unorganised players and there are minimum standards for them, barring their dimensions, axle load and rear lights. But these are also not adhered to as the owners try to increase the size of trolleys to carry more goods. Rarely can one find tractor trolleys withback lights to warn any approaching vehicle.

Since trolleys are only attached to the tractors, the trolleys don’t have any braking system and these lack shock absorbing capacity. Experts said since the vehicles usually ply on undulating surfaces while carrying people, they can also pose high risk to occupants. They say there is a significant risk of toppling andhence, they are meant only for carrying goods and must not be allowed to carry people.
TOI has learnt that though a proposal was mooted for synchronisation of brakes in the trolleys with the main tractor a few years back, it was shelved because of opposition from different groups. “First, the trolleys lack a very stable structure and there is hardly any enforcement of rules considering that matters relating to tractors are politically sensitive. So, introducing new standards and enforcement of traffic laws becomes tough,” said a government source.
Road safety expert Rohit Baluja said there has to be a comprehensive system with definition and accountability of all stakeholders who are key participants and decision makers.

Tap water connections in 38% of rural houses facing woes: Report | India News

NEW DELHI: Only 62% rural households in the country were found to have functional tap water connections with 38% of the total assessed households unable to reach the “functionality” levels in terms of meeting all three parameters of adequate quantity, fully regular supply and quality (potable). Overall functionality of household tap connection in the country increased by 14% in 2021-22 over the previous assessment in 2020-21, according to an assessment report released by the Jal Shakti (water resources) ministry on Sunday.
The findings show Puducherry at the top with 88% functionality score followed by Tamil Nadu (86%), Himachal Pradesh (82%), Goa (81%) and Telangana (80%).
On the other hand, water-scarce Rajasthan is at the bottom with the lowest 38% of functionality score with Kerala, Manipur and Andaman & Nicobar Islands (40% each), Tripura (41%), Maharashtra (43%) and Madhya Pradesh (47%) appearing as second, third, fourth and fifth worst state, respectively.

The other states where functionality was less than the national average of 62% include Odisha (54%), Haryana and Jharkhand (55% each), Uttar Pradesh (57%) and Karnataka (58%).
Functionality has been computed as the intersection of adequate quantity (minimum 55 litres per capita per day), fully regular supply and potable (quality) for households wherein water supply was available at the time of survey in 2,59,151 households.
The assessment was done by a third party under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) which aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water regularly through individual household tap connections to all rural households (HH) in India by 2024.
It was found that nationally, 86% of the HH tap connections were found to be working on the day of the sample survey for the assessment. Out of which more than four out of five HHs (85%) received adequate quantity, 80% got fully regular supply and 87% received potable water. The intersection of these parameters, however, turned out to be 62% of the HHs receiving fully functional tap water connections within the premises.
The survey found 14% of the HHs did not receive water through household taps on the date or for a week preceding the survey.

Below-par waste processing pulled down Bengaluru's Swachh status | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: Partial participation in one of the three parameters and technical issues was behind Bengaluru sliding down 15 ranks in Swachh Survekshan 2022, according to sources in BBMP.

This year, cities were evaluated on three parameters for a total of 7,500 marks: 3,000 marks for service level progress (SLP) and 2,250 each for certification and citizens’ voice. BBMP managed to score 2,983 marks.

Excuses like technical problems for the dip in the city’s Swachh Survekshan 2022 rankings may not cut ice, given the proliferation of black spots. Roadside garbage heaps are just as much a reminder of the administration’s failure to clear them as they are of Bengalureans’ tendency to palm off their burden on unresponsive authorities. Given the scale of the challenge, BBMP must involve citizens at all levels of waste management if the city must be saved from being buried under its own waste.

According to sources, BBMP scored 1,400 out of 3,500 in SLP owing to the civic body’s tussle with the consulting agency responsible for uploading required details for the survey. The agency had to upload the details once every four months but failed to do it for the first two times on time, contributing to the loss of marks under the head of SLP.
In the certification category, there were three subcategories: open-defecation free (ODF) status, garbage-free city (GFC) and water-plus category. While BBMP noticed up 600 marks in ODF, it could not complete under the other two subcategories due to shortcomings of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
To become eligible for GFC, the Palike should have processed at least 60% of the waste it collects but its achievement has been pegged at 55%. The score under this head was zero. BBMP officials lamented that some overenthusiastic activists are scuttling the optimum use of waste processing plants.
Of the eight plants, one is shut due to activists and the rest are not running at optimal capacity. In water-plus category, BBMP could not participate and scored zero as sewage is being released into most city lakes and BWSSB has failed to fix the problem. In the citizens’ voice bucket too, the Palike did not fare well as majority of the feedback was negative. The Palike managed to score only 1,000.
‘City not competing for two sub-categories’
Harish Kumar, special commissioner, BSWML, confirmed that the city is not competing for water-plus and GFC and losing huge marks every year. There is a long way to go in this regard, he added.
The Central evaluation team has observed remarkable changes in some of the fields of SWM in Bengaluru. The city was struggling to reach many goals but has not improved, said Kumar.
“We were never able to convince citizens about delivering on their expectations and hence, were never able to cross the 50% mark in citizens’ voice section. We have to do several things to win their heart,” he said.
“Under SLP, we could not perform in the first two of the three windows owing to the shift from PMU to an in-house mechanism. But there are some positive developments and we hope we could achieve something more the next time. We know our strengths and weaknesses and we will work on those things,” he said.

4 Italians booked for graffiti on Ahmedabad Metro | India News

AHMEDABAD: The city crime branch on Saturday booked four Italian nationals who painted graffiti on a Metro train at Apparel Park on Friday, hours before the Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project.
The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Gomtipur police station. The accused were booked for criminal trespassing and damaging public property. They have been identified as: Cudini Gianluca, 24, a resident of Tortoreto; Baldo Sacha, 29, a resident of Monte San Vato; Starinieri Daniele, 21, a resident of Spoltore; and Capecci Paolo, 27; Grottammare.
The officials said that the four men trespassed into the Apparel Park station and spray-painted ‘TAS’ on a Metro rail coach on Friday.

Acting on an input shared by Mumbai police, the four men were traced to Kothawala flats in Paldi. A team of Gujarat ATS (Anti-Terrorist Squad) and the city crime branch picked them up on Friday night.
“We held them after we learnt that they were seen doing recce of Ahmedabad Metro train just before it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. However, it later transpired that there was nothing serious and they graffitied for fun,” said an ATS officer.
City crime branch officers said that four men were part of a larger group that visited places around the globe and spray-painted graffiti on trains. Earlier, these graffiti artists were involved in a similar incident reported in Kochi, where they spray-painted – ‘Splash’ and ‘Burn’ on four metro cars; they were allegedly involved in such incidents in Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai.
“There were four FIRs filed against these graffiti artists. They had painted graffiti on the entire train in Kochi in May. Such incidents were reported in Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai also. This was the fifth incident of a Metro train being defaced,” said the crime branch officer. Sources in the city police said that these Italian nationals had India visitor visa and had landed in the city on Wednesday.
They had first travelled to Dubai from where they flew to Mumbai and then to Ahmedabad. The group then graffitied on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

Telangana cleanest, Assam worst in rural area Swacchta survey | India News

NEW DELHI: Telangana, Haryana and Tamil Nadu emerged the cleanest among all large states on parameters of rural sanitation while Assam, Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir were the three worst performers, according to the Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2022.
Among districts Bhiwani in Haryana is the cleanest even as the second and third best performers’ award were bagged by Jagtial and Nizamabad districts of Telangana. Golaghat district of Assam finished at the bottom of 709 districts, which were ranked in this survey. The two other worst performers were from Bihar – Banka (708 rank) and Katihar (707).
Since Delhi and Chandigarh are fully urbanised UTs, these were not ranked.

The survey report released by President Droupadi Muru on Sunday has ranked states and districts on the basis of their performance attained on qualitative and quantitative parameters and engagement of the rural community in improvement of their sanitation status.
On Saturday, she released the sanitation status of urban areas and the ranking of states and cities were announced. While the housing and urban affairs ministry carries out the swachhta ranking of urban areas, the Jal Shakti ministry conducts the survey of rural areas.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, which is now celebrated as Swachh Bharat Diwas as well, Murmu also released the status report on “Functionality Assessment of Tap Connections” under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Puducherry received the best performer award under the more than 60% coverage category while Goa was ranked second.
Under the less than 60% coverage category, Tamil Nadu ranked first and Meghalaya came second. Murmu also gave away a special award to the Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh for being the first “Har Ghar Jal” certified district. Speaking on the occasion, Murmu said like truth and non-violence, Mahatma Gandhi insisted on cleanliness. She said once Gandhiji had said that if the habit of cleanliness was inculcated in children, from the very beginning, then they would remain conscious of cleanliness throughout their life.
Referring to the achievement in construction of over 11 crore toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission since October 2014, she said this has resulted in changing the behaviour of around 60 crore people.
