Shadab Khan: Watch: Injured Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan's unusual exit from the field

NEW DELHI: Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan faced an injury scare during a National T20 Cup match between Rawalpindi and Sialkot on Sunday at the United Bank Limited Sports Complex in Karachi.
Shadab, the captain of Islamabad, had an unusual exit from the field after sustaining an injury while fielding.
Video of the unusual exit went viral
In a bizarre scene captured on video and subsequently gone viral, Shadab was seen being carried off the field piggyback style by a teammate.
Fans were quick to express concerns about the apparent lack of basic facilities at the stadium, questioning the circumstances that led to such an unconventional exit for the injured player.

How the injury happened
The injury occurred when Shadab, who bowled two economical overs, stepped on the ball while fielding.
Physios assessed the extent of the injury on the field and applied an ice pack to his left ankle. An update on the injury indicated that further evaluations would be conducted.
Fans took selfies with injured Shadab: Despite the injury, a later video surfaced showing fans taking selfies with the injured Pakistan international player, highlighting the popularity and accessibility of cricket stars among the fans.

PCB overlooked Shadab after ODI World Cup
Shadab Khan last represented Pakistan during the ODI World Cup in India from August 5 to November 19. The tournament saw Pakistan failing to qualify for the semi-finals, and Shadab had a below-par outing.
Although he served as Babar Azam‘s deputy during the World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Shaheen Afridi as the new captain of the T20I team, overlooking Shadab.
Additionally, the selectors excluded Shadab Khan, along with other players like Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Usama Mir, and Iftikhar Ahmed, from the Test squad for the tour to Australia, opting for a different combination after the ODI World Cup.

Speaker: 10th Schedule needs reforms, need to replace Speaker as decision maker, dissent and defection be distinguished: Arvind Datar | India News

MUMBAI: “Let us distinguish between dissent and defection in the Tenth Schedule,’’ said senior advocate Arvind Datar on Monday calling for reformsto replace the Speaker as the decision-making authority in disqualification pleas and recategorize which whip can lead to such action.
Datar was giving the prestigious K T Desai Memorial lecture this year to an array of Bombay high court Judges and lawyers at the event presided over by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya. The topic he chose was ‘Anti- Defection and Constitutional Morality—The Need to replace the tenth Schedule.’ In Maharashtra there is an ongoing disqualification proceeding before the Speaker on rival Shiv Sena pleas. The SC had last month set December 31 as the deadline to conclude the proceedings and Datar said the SC had earlier suggested that three months be the time within which the Speaker decides.
At the HC lawns where the carpet was red and the weather pleasant, Datar delved into a politico-legal delicate topic said, “Foremeost, thing we have to do is to remove the decision of disqualification from the Speaker. “It is not possible to expect—I don’t blame the Speaker—he is elected, he belongs to the ruling party, and history, empirical data shows that there is not one single instance of a Speaker voting against his own party. I have not seen.’’
Who should it go to then? Though the 255th Law Commission report recommended it go to the Governor, disagreeing Datar said, “shifting from Speaker to the Governor may not achieve the objectivity that is required.
He then cited a SC Judgment by Justices Rohinton Nariman and Ravindra Bhatt who said it was time to think of a separate tribunal, headed by a Judge or somebody to decide the issue.
On the Party whip, the violation of which can lead to pleas of disqualification of a political party member, he said, “there is a dangerous trend of party whip system.’’
“There is a difference between dissent and defection. I can have a genuine dissent on an issue,’’ said noting that the UK and USA do not have an anti-defection law.
How to distinguish? Every dissent, Datar suggested, ought not to lead to a call for disqualification. “ I would say that unless it is a no confidence motion, a money bill or unless it is a bill which is going to implement that Party’s manifesto , any other difference of opinion should not be taken as a defection.’’Datar, a legal luminary explaining the topic of the lecture said, “I was very disturbed to see the way how the 10th schedule had moved on, especially in various parts of the country.’’
In his erudite style, Datar took the august gathering through the history that led to the 52nd amendment of the Indian Constitution on January 30, 1985 that introduced the tenth schedule intended to erase the “menace of defection”.
He recalled how then Member of Parliament Sharad Dighe from then Bombay North Central in the debates before the amendment, quoted Dr Subhash Kashyap–who wrote a book recently—mentioned that from 1971 to 1985 “little over 4000 people got elected to the Lok Sabha and various Assemblies and of these 1969 of them defected from one party to the other.’’ “Shockinly, Datar further said, in the State Assemblies too the figure was high. He gave the data of the 1950s and 60s saying, “ There were total 568 defections from 1951 to 1968’, but of these “438 took place in one years between March 1967 to February 1968.’’
There is no data of what happened after 1985 but, said Datar.
Parliament had earlier formed the YB Chavan committee which gave a report in 1969.
After the Tenth Schedule, upto 2002 there were hardly any case on anti-defection, said Datar but added, “It soon became apparent that the 52nd amendment was not a solution to defection’’ though “open defecation was curbed.’’
Giving his suggestions for reforming the system, Datar, pointed out that “cases mostly are only para two of the schedule.’’
Para 2 lays the grounds for disqualification of the members ‘’ If a member of a House belonging to a political party: Has voluntarily given up his membership of such political party, or Votes, or abstains from voting in such House, contrary to the direction of his political party….’’ “ Datar said, “One is to say he has voluntarily given up his membership and the other is the question of a split’’.
The CJ Upadhaya in his speech said the Speaker has to be fair and quoted B R Ambedkar the father of Indian Constitution who said, ‘however good a Constitution, may be, if those who are working on it are not good, it won’t, and however bad a Constitution may be, if people working on the Constitution are good, it will be good..’

MahaRERA: MahaRERA Quality Assurance Framework for Real Estate Projects |

Mumbai: MahaRera has floated a consultation paper on a framework for quality assurance in real estate projects. The regulatory body aims to ensure that quality issues or defects in construction are addressed right at the initial stage and homebuyers do not have to resort to the defect liability clause.
Accordingly, third party agencies will be appointed for monitoring quality in various projects and these agencies will carry out inspection of quality at different stages of the project, including advanced stages of construction, pre-handover and verification of rectification of issues. However, initially, developers have an option to be part of the quality assurance framework. MahaRera has invited suggestions from the public and has put forth the frameworks already in place in countries such as Singapore and also in the PMAY scheme.
Earlier in October, MahaRera had announced plans for creation of a quality assurance framework and had sought inputs from self-regulatory organisations of the developers. However, the regulatory body failed to get satisfactory inputs from the developers. Suggestions have now been invited from the public till December 31.
The real estate regulatory body had prepared this consultation paper based on discussions with experts in the field and had included global best practices and provisions of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY). MahaRera chairman Ajoy Mehta said that the developer is responsible for redressal of complaints of homebuyers for five years after handing over possession. To ensure that the allottees do not need to exercise this option, MahaRera has proposed a phase-wise inspection of the quality of project by third party agencies. Initially, this system will be optional, but after the transition period, MahaRera will make this system mandatory for all projects. According to MahaRera officials, the interests of the home buyers will be taken care of because of the system. The details of the projects of the developers, who adopt the system, will be put up on the MahaRera website. “This will allow a homebuyer to make an informed decision before investing in a project. Besides, the system will also help improve the credibility of the developers,” said a MahaRera official.
The third-party agencies will be appointed by MahaRera with the help of organisations representing the developers and the homebuyers, and the details of the agencies would be made available on the MahaRera website.
In the consultation paper, MahaRera has listed an indicative list of problems faced by homebuyers after moving into a residence they have acquired. This ranges from cracks, hollowness, leakage, presence of salt (efflorescence), flaking or peeling, algae and mould deposition on walls, among several other issues. The homebuyers may face other problems with regard to ceiling, floor, doors, windows, plumbing and electrical system in the property.
The consultation paper proposes that for third-party quality inspection to be carried out in three stages — advanced stages of construction, pre-handover/pre-delivery of housing and verification of rectification of issues. In the first stage, inspection is carried out when work on the sub-structure, that is foundation, short column, grade beam, ground floor, etc, is complete. The second stage is pre-handover/pre-delivery inspection. As per Section 14 (3) of the Rera Act, the developer is liable to rectify the defects if it is brought to the notice of the developer within a period of five years from handover of possession.

White-Topped Road: Jodhpur Residents See Red Over New White-topped Road, Call It Rainwater Trap | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) ambitious project to white-top a road in Satellite area seems to have created more problems than convenience. It’s been few days since Prerna Tirth Road has been dug up and a new concrete layer laid on top of the existing road. Traders in Jodhpur ward are up in arms against the now-elevated road, fearing that this will create a rainwater trap and inundate their shops and societies during monsoon.
The Prerna Tirth Road, which is currently undergoing white-topping, has seen a significant rise in its level, leaving one lane higher than the entrance of surrounding properties. “The road has become so high that water will enter our shops and societies. This is not what we had desired,” lamented a local trader who fears his establishment may be affected. “We had hoped the white-topping project would solve the waterlogging issue, but it seems to have created a new one,” he added, requesting anonymity.
AMC’s white-topping initiative was, launched in August 2022, and was aimed at revamping the city’s roads with a durable surface. The civic body aims to revitalize 33km of roads in western Ahmedabad at a cost of Rs 180 crore.
The civic body had initially identified 96 roads for white topping, but only 43 in the city’s western parts were approved. Six of these are currently under construction, including the Prerna Tirth Road.
AMC’s decision to dig up existing roads and resurface them with white tops was met with scepticism. White topping is a method of construction that involves laying a concrete layer over the existing asphalt layer. This results in a more durable and longer lasting road.
The AMC has relaid one road in Gurukul using the white topping method. As per Indian Roads Congress guidelines, tie bars are supposed to be put while concreting the slabs to ensure grip. It is done to increase structural strength, say AMC officials.

Mumbai City's Spirited Display Ends in 2-1 Defeat in AFC Champions League |

Mumbai: Mumbai City put up a spirited display, even managing to finally score a goal, but it was not enough to stop the Islanders from suffering their sixth successive defeat in the AFC Champions Leaguethis season, as they were beaten 2-1 by Navbahor at Balewadi Stadium on Monday. Dutch winger Nasser El Khayati put Mumbai ahead in the 15th minute, calmly scoring off a rebound after watching teammate Jorge Pereyra Diaz’s header off Greg Stewart’s cross strike the post.It was their first goal in the competition this season. But a foul by Akash Mishra in a dangerous area saw the Uzbekistan side draw level through Jamshid Iskanderov’s perfectly executed left-footed free kick (29th min). While Diaz went agonisingly close to restoring Mumbai’s lead just before the interval, the hosts’s defensive frailties on set pieces were again exposed when Jovan Dokic turned in a tame Iskanderov corner in added time of the first half. The reigning ISL Shield winners failed to produce an equaliser of their own and had to endure the ignominy of losing all six of their group D games. Victory, meanwhile, ensured Navbahor’s qualification to the round of 16 stage as one of the three best runners-up teams from the West region. Significant about Monday’s fixture was, it may well be a while before Indian football followers get to see an Indian team play in the Champions League again, with Asia’s premier club football competition set to be split into two tiers next season. For the last three seasons, the ISL league stage winners booked a direct spot in the group stages of the competition. But from next season, India won’t be among the elite and instead have two spots – one direct and the other indirect – in the second tier AFC Champions League 2. The top tier will comprise 24 clubs, and will be named AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE). tnn
