After five years of monsoon rains in Sabarkantha district this year, in the month of July this year more than 50 percent of the season has rained, the district has become drenched. In the year 2017, 100 percent rain of the season fell in the month of July. According to the available information, which was the highest in the last 20 years, then this year more than 50 percent of the season i.e. 53 percent of the rain has fallen. If we look at the statistics of the last five years in the district, the average rainfall is around 25 percent in the month of July every year.
The year 2018 recorded a four-year high of 38.51 per cent rainfall till July 29, but only 69 per cent of the season’s total was recorded following the departure of the monsoon in the first half of October. Then for three years i.e. till 2021, around 25 percent rainfall was recorded in July and the monsoon extended till the second half of November.
However, in the year 2021, despite the extension of monsoon till November, only 77.96 percent of the season’s rainfall was recorded. In the year 2015 also, 83 percent of the rain fell in the month of July. But then only 33 percent rainfall was recorded during August October September. While in 2017, despite 100 percent of the season’s average rainfall on July 29, only 29 percent of the rain fell in the remaining three months.
In contrast, in 2016, 18, 19, 20 and 21, despite receiving 25 to 28 percent rainfall in July, the remaining two and a half months of the monsoon season received 29 percent to 85 percent rainfall, implying that there is no pattern that higher rainfall in July increases seasonal rainfall. Sabarkantha district receives an average seasonal rainfall of 848 mm.
This year, 499 mm of rain i.e. 58.90 percent of the season’s average rain has already fallen by 6 hours on July 29. Which is more than double compared to previous four years. After heavy rains in Prantij and Talod this year, there has been a feeling of relief with significant rains in the last week. In 29 days of July S.K. 53 percent of the season’s rain has fallen in the district.
