Crocodiles from Chennai and Orissa will enter Ranibagh

Mumbai: Crocodiles and gharials (a type of crocodile) will soon be brought to Byculla’s Rani Bagh. Five crocodiles from Crocodile Bank in Chennai and four from Kolhapur Zoo will be brought to Ranibagh. Apart from this, eight gharials from Nandanvan Zoo in Orissa will also arrive. The work of creating a suitable place for them to stay is in full swing, sources said.

Chennai and Orissa are considered to have favorable environment for crocodile and domestic breeding. The crocodile numbers will also increase in Ranibagh as their convenient glass cage is being constructed. An underwater view is also planned to see the crocodile. The 5,000 sq m glass cage will create an environment conducive to crocodiles and gharials. As its work is currently in the final stages, it will be open to tourists till Diwali, said the Rani Bagh administrator.
