Recently, the single use plastic has been banned by the central government. It is the basic duty of everyone to avoid using plastic even in daily life to maintain the eco system of the environment. Gujarat Technological University also conducts many types of research and innovation to get rid of plastic in practical life. GTU-run Graduate School of Pharmacy Professor Dr. Kashyap Thumre GTU Chancellor Dr. regarding plastic used in pharma products. Under the guidance of Naveen Seth, a patent has been granted by the Government of India for 20 years for research on plastics used in packaging of pharma products and the incorporation of these plastics into products over time.

How harmful is plastic?
Dr. Kashyap Thummar said that the amount of plastic mixed in the products from the plastic containers used in the packaging of pharma products has been detected by High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography Technique (HPTLC). According to global research, if the plastic stays in contact with our body for a long time, various side effects are seen by the plastic. Such hormone imbalance can lead to impotence, digestive tract and even life-threatening diseases like cancer.

Plastics and its products were researched
Dr. Kashyap Thummar further said that research has been done on plastic used for packaging of pharma products and its products. It is generally believed that the packaging of any medicine protects the products from the changing environment. But if plastic is used in the packaging, then that plastic gets mixed with the products in it over time. So if these products are used, they are harmful to health.

Through this research, the amount of plastic content in the product can be determined using HPTLC technique in a simple, fast and low-cost way. This patent has been granted to GTU for 20 years as approved by the Patent Department of Government of India. This research means Dr. Thumar and Chancellor of GTU were also invited by Germany.
