AHMEDABAD: Gandhinagar police rescued a minor girl, a student of Class IX at Mount Carmel School, Gandhinagar, from Sitamarhi in Bihar, in the custody of a man in his early twenties. The man, who lives in Delhi, met the victim on Facebook, after which they “decided to marry”. The girl left Gandhinagar directly from her school.
M B BharwadSector 21 police inspector, who oversaw the case said, “The girl is from a prominent family and her father is an officer in the social empowerment department. She went missing from her school in Sector 21 on Monday. A team headed by police sub-inspector R C Kharadi had been tracking her for four days and finally managed to rescue her. She is being brought to Gandhinagar along with the man.”
According to Bharwad, the girl met the man on Facebook and the two were in constant touch after that. Bharwad said in the girl’s father’s mobile data, investigators found an unknown number to which there were frequent calls. The number was traced to Delhi. There were calls to this number the day she left and the day before it.
Officials said cybercrime investigators were roped in. It emerged that the girl had got a ticket to Delhi confirmed. Kharadi and his team were sent to Delhi and the youth’s mobile phone was put under surveillance. Investigators found the mobile phone was heading to Bihar and a team following them. The duo were finally caught in Sitamarhi. Cops said they feared the two would cross in Nepal, just 150-odd km from where they were held.
Investigators said they are yet to get more details on the youth as he is yet to be interrogated. The investigation revealed he was working as a labourer in Delhi. As the girl is a minor girl, the youth will be arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The case had become the talk of the town and senior officials in Gandhinagar also got involved. They had contacted senior IPS officers in Delhi to help investigators find the youth.
