These days rain is more than normal in most of the districts. But there was little rain in June. Due to this farmers shifted to soybean instead of waiting to plant paddy. As a result, the area under paddy in the state decreased by 33%. However, the area under soybean increased by about 9% during this period.

According to the Agriculture Department, so far paddy has been planted in 9.88 lakh hectare area in the state. Last year till this period, paddy was planted in 14.72 lakh hectare area. Soyabean has been sown in 45.58 lakh hectare area. Till this period in the year 2021, soybean was planted in only 41.86 lakh hectare area.

Soybean is an oilseed crop. Talking about grains, this time only maize has been sown in more area than last year. The area under all other cereals including paddy, jowar, bajra and kodo is less than last year. The condition of pulse crops is better than that of cereals.

Increase in paddy area due to rain

According to agricultural experts, by August 15, the area under paddy may reach the normal level. DN Pathak, executive director, Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA), says soyabean area may increase this year.
