- The Matter Of Land Acquisition In Majha Was Complicated Due To Delhi, Amritsar, Katra Expressway Project, Only 88% Land Was Acquired In Jalandhar

The issue of land acquisition in Majha is complicated in connection with the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway project. Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran are lagging behind due to lack of agreement between the farmers and the administration regarding the rate of land. Only 4 per cent land in Gurdaspur, 9 per cent land in Tarn Taran could be handed over to the National Highways Authority of India by taking possession.
Till mid-July, maximum 88 per cent land has been handed over to NHIA by taking possession from Jalandhar, 83 per cent from Sangrur and 81 per cent from Malerkotla. 47 thousand crores is to be spent on this project.

- Due to the screwing of the rate, the lowest was 4 percent in Gurdaspur, only 9 percent of the land could be handed over to the National Highway in Tarn Taran.
Got possession of 465 hectares of land in 13 days of July
Under the project, in the 13 days of July itself, 465 hectares of land has been handed over to the NHIA by the administration under land acquisition. In the first quarter of this year from January to March 31, 220 hectares of land was acquired. In the second quarter from April 1 to June, possession of 1777 hectares of land was taken. At the same time, till December last year, only 35 hectares of land could be acquired. Till mid-July this year, possession of 2497 hectares of land has been taken.

- Project work will start by September 15
With regard to the issue of land rates in Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur, the possession of land as per the project requirement is very less. At the same time, now the owners of the land are going to the arbitrator. It will be cleared soon and the project work will start from 15th September. -RP Singh, Regional Officer (NHAI)
