The Holy Shranav has started from today. During this holy month of devotion, people’s faith is being hurt due to public non-vegetarian restaurants (non-veg stalls) in the pilgrimage town of Veraval- Somnath. As most of the rakes are located on the public road and on the roadside next to the railway station, the visitors coming from outside feel uneasy. Taking this into consideration, the District President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has made a written request to the relatives including the Chief Officer to keep these non-vegetary counters closed.

Public sentiment that the municipality should act
Govindbhai Bhanushali, vice-president of Gir Somnath Vishwa Hindu Parishad, said in his submission that from the second gate of the rayon in Veraval to Ram Bharosa Chowk in Jodia city, from the bus station road to Ram Bharosa Chowk and on the road from Ghas Market near the railway station to Brahmakund Shiv Mandir and on both sides of the main road from Prabhaspatan to Somnath Mandir. All non-vegetarian restaurants (non-veg restaurants) have been requested to remain closed due to public sentiments.

Hatdas serving non-veg in public as you enter the city
Regarding keeping this bandh, it was said that during the holy month of Shravan, a large number of tourists from home and abroad visit the shrine to have darshan of Somnath Mahadev. At that time tourists mostly come at Veraval railway station and bus stand. or in their own vehicles enter the city from both these main roads. Then from the second gate of Rayon to Base Station Road to Rambharosa Chowk, there are non-veg stalls selling meat and fish in public at many places on the side of the road. Apart from this, there are many non-vegetarian restaurant stalls operating from Hoy as well as up the road known as Chara Peeth next to the railway station and on the road up to Labella.

The sentiments are hurt as the sale takes place only on the road where people go to the temple
Due to which the tourists coming from the outskirts by train have to pass over these two roads to reach Somnath. So, since there is a large residential area around the railway station, all the residents have to go to the nearby Shiva temple of Brahmakund via these roads. Then the Hindu society demands that such shops should be closed during the month of Shravan as the religious sentiments of the people are hurt by the public sale of non-vegetable items on the road while going to worship Shiva.
